Terra Industries wins US$1 million contract to protect Kaduna gold and lithium Kuangqu mine

Terra Industries received a US$1 million contract from Anka Metals to provide security services for the Jema Resource Project.

Terra Industries recently announced that it has received a US$1 million contract from Anka Metals to provide security services for its Jema 'a Resource Project in the Gidan Waya area of Kaduna State. This polymetallic Kuangqu contains mineral resources such as gold, lithium, copper and nickel.

The Nigeria defense technology company said in a statement that the deal marks the first contract under a broader security partnership between the two parties, which will cover Anka Metal's entire mining portfolio.

Terra will deploy autonomous monitoring and field protection systems for the project that run on top of its proprietary command and control software platform ArtemisOS. ArtemisOS coordinates Terra's hardware fleet-including the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Iroko for air surveillance, the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) Duma, and fixed sentry towers-and feeds real-time footage and threat detection data back to the central operating dashboard.

The same technology stack also supports other deployment projects the company provides to defense and government customers. The company said the first phase of the contract covers initial deployment and the partnership's structural design is intended to gradually expand as Anka Metal's other mining assets are put into production.

Why need to strengthen security in Kuangqu in Kaduna State

The Jema Resources Project is located in one of the most watched mineral assets in Nigeria. In July, the project signed a $500 million financing and development framework agreement with Kaduna Mining Development Company and Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) to cover the state's mining assets. According to Nere Emiko, CEO of Anka Metal, Kaduna State is the first state in Nigeria to be the first to obtain such a partnership through a state-owned mining company.

Terra pointed out that mining, oil and power operators across Africa often operate critical assets in areas with weak security and long Incident Response Service times, a market gap that its commercial arm is committed to filling.

Shortly after Terra's commercial arm was launched on August 28, the company closed a $2 million security agreement for two unnamed lithium mine operators earlier this month. The contract from Anka Metal followed closely.

Who is Terra Industries?

Terra Industries was founded in 2024 by Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka to establish an autonomous defense industry foundation for Africa and the wider global South.

In August this year, the company completed a US$52 million seed round of financing, its largest financing round to date, with investors including well-known institutions such as 8VC, Lux Capital, Silent Ventures and SV Angel. In addition, the company appointed former SpaceX executive Ben MacWilliams as vice president of strategy and opened its first office outside Africa in London.

Before launching the commercial division, Terra's technology has been deployed to protect power plants, mines and other critical assets worth approximately US$11 billion in multiple African countries.

Its product line includes long-and medium-range drones, autonomous sentry towers, unmanned ground vehicles and maritime surveillance systems, all coordinated through ArtemisOS. The company said it expects its contract amount to exceed US$100 million by the end of 2026.

As Kaduna State positions itself as an AFC backed mineral investment center, Anka Metal's contract further expands Terra's business landscape in the state's emerging solid minerals sector.
