The authoritative map of traditional and digital finance

S&P Global has led a strategic investment in cryptocurrency data provider Kaiko, expanding its Series B financing to US$110 million. This round of financing has attracted an unusually broad alliance of investors from traditional finance and digital assets. In addition to existing shareholders Anthemis, Point Nine and Revaia, participants include BNP Paribas, Bpifrance, Broadridge, Canton Foundation, CB Ventures, DRW Ventures, Nasdaq Ventures, Royal Bank of Canada, Stellar Organization and Susquehanna Private Equity.

Kaiko previously completed a US$53 million Series B financing in June 2022. The company did not disclose valuation information for its latest investments. "The digital asset market operates 24 hours a day, and the infrastructure that supports it must also do so," Kaiko said, adding that the funding shows that institutions running current capital markets are investing in the data infrastructure needed to operate the tokenized market.

Setting the standard for the tokenized market

At the same time, institutions involved in the investment have joined the "Strategic Industry Working Group" led by Kaiko, which allows them to directly participate in shaping the data and infrastructure used to put tokenized products into production. Kaiko said the newly raised funds will be used to support its core market data business and expand its data Infrastructure services in on-chain capital markets.

The financing follows a series of aggressive acquisitions. Kaiko recently completed two major acquisitions: Cometh, a MiCA/CASP-regulated DeFi infrastructure provider, and Amberdata, a digital asset market data provider and Kaiko's previous largest competitor in the United States. These two acquisitions, coupled with the recent launch of the S & P Kaiko Digital Asset Index series and its ongoing data collaboration with Bloomberg, have expanded Kaiko's business landscape and its technical and regulatory capabilities in the United States.

Kaiko provides market data for digital assets and says it covers more than 150 exchanges and agreements. The strong lineup of institutional investors behind the financing shows that the need for compliant, high-quality data infrastructure in the tokenized market is shifting from niche interest to a priority for mainstream institutions.
