Such joint mining arrangements allow infrastructure operators such as Soluna to benefit from monetization of power and site capacity without directly owning the mining hardware; at the same time, equipment owners like Bitdeer do not have to develop facilities from scratch, allowing access to existing and power-eligible sites. This structure has become an increasingly common way for both parties to expand bitcoin mining capacity more quickly than each other could operate independently.

Combining renewable energy with flexible computing power

Project Kati 1 is one of multiple sites in Soluna's broader development pipeline that aims to combine renewable energy power generation with flexible, adjustable computing loads such as Bitcoin mining and, increasingly, artificial intelligence data center capacity. The second expansion is advancing rapidly after the first agreement, indicating that demand for deployable mining capacity at wind power stations remains strong as of the fourth quarter of 2026.

Combining wind power generation with Bitcoin mining has become a widely adopted strategy by developers to monetize intermittent renewable energy. During periods of oversupply, these sources of energy are often abandoned or sold at low prices because mining loads can be rapidly increased and decreased to absorb any available power without the need for other flexible-demand applications that are typically required for grid-level energy storage.
