Pi Network launches new developer tools, and application development continues to expand

Three new capabilities for Pi application builders

The Pi core team has launched a new set of developer tools designed to make building applications on the Pi blockchain more practical. This update provides developers with three key features: local storage of applications, access to application-specific pledged data, and file and video sharing capabilities.

Local storage support means applications can now save data directly on the device without having to reload it every time. The Staking Data API allows eligible developers to view the number of valid Pi's pledged by users for their applications through Ecosystem Directory Staking. Developers can use this information to build specific application features around their most loyal supporters.

The third tool, Pi.shareFile, integrates mobile phone native functions and allows users to share files, pictures or videos directly from the Pi Network app, and is suitable for a variety of usage scenarios from games to markets.

The launch of these tools highlights a growing consensus in the crypto world: strong developer support is crucial to nurturing a vibrant ecosystem. As competition among blockchain projects intensifies, the ability to attract and retain developers will have a significant impact on user adoption rates and long-term sustainability.

Integrate documentation to reduce friction

These tools are now included in a unified developer portal that aims to lower technical barriers and encourage the creation of more complex applications within the Pi ecosystem. At the same time, Pi Network comprehensively overhauled its technical documentation because previous resources were scattered everywhere. Putting everything in one place reduces the obstacles developers face from the initial idea to building a usable application.

The larger context is equally important. Pi Network plans to put automated market maker liquidity pools, smart contract authentication and RPC infrastructure into production on Protocol 27 on September 15, 2026. The upgrade provides infrastructure readiness for RPC servers, decentralized exchange (DEX) capabilities and AMM liquidity pools, which means users will be able to directly trade $PI and other tokens through the automated liquidity pool without the need for central intermediaries to participate.

The advancement of the developer toolkit and the upgrade of Protocol 27 together reflect a clear strategic focus: the long-term value of the blockchain ecosystem depends on what is built on top of it.
