What is Vibe Coding and what role does Internet Computers (ICP) play in it?
Atmosphere programming refers to building software through natural language describing requirements to artificial intelligence, rather than writing the code yourself. On Internet Computers (ICP), the main tool for achieving this goal is Caffeine. This is an artificial intelligence platform launched by the DFINITY Foundation that transforms written prompts into complete Web applications and deploys them on the blockchain. This glossary will explain the terms you will encounter during this process.
Tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor can help developers write code faster. Replit and Lovable combine AI output with human editing, an approach often referred to as "atmosphere programming." Caffeine goes one step further. According to VentureBeat's public report on October 15, 2025, a set of AI models is responsible for writing, deploying and updating each application without users having to touch any code. At a hackathon in San Francisco in July 2025, a dentist used Caffeine to build the Dental Tracks app to help patients manage dental records without writing a single line of code.
What terms do you need to know?
These terms can be divided into two categories: one is terms about AI building tools, and the other is terms about underlying networks.
AI application building terms
- Prompt: Natural language instructions that you type or verbally enter into the AI.
- Caffeine:DFINITY's AI platform builds, deploys and updates Web applications through dialogue.
- Self-writing internet: DFINITY is the name for a network in which applications are created and changed through natural language.
- App Market: Caffeine's library where creators publish applications and others can clone and modify them.
- Motoko: Caffeine's AI is the programming language used to write code. If the update results in loss of user data, the update will fail and the AI will attempt to execute it again.
- Instant and Guided builds: Two modes of Caffeine V3. Immediate builds are executed immediately; guided builds ask clarifying questions first.
Internet Computer (ICP) Terminology
- Canister: ICP's smart contract form. It can provide web services directly to the browser.
- Cycles: The unit used to pay for computing resources. ICP tokens are converted to cycles and destroyed, which is crucial to ICP token economics.
- Reverse gas model: The application owner pays the calculation fee, so users do not have to pay transaction fees.
- Network Nervous System (NNS): Governance the on-chain DAO of the network. The holder locks the ICP in the "neuron" to vote.
- Chain-key cryptography: A signature system that allows containers to hold Bitcoin without relying on bridges or custodians.
What products have been launched recently and who is DFINITY working with?
The latest developments surrounding Caffeine involve product rebuilding and public agency collaboration.
- Caffeine V3: As reported in April 2026, the V3 version reconstructs the platform and builds each application with a group of expert AI agents. Old projects are automatically migrated.
- United Nations Development Program (UNDP): On August 25, 2026, the United Nations Development Program and DFINITY announced the establishment of a partnership. The pilot project will use DFINITY's cloud engine and Caffeine in UNDP country offices, civil society organizations and governments.
- OpenSaaS: Two days later, DFINITY launched OpenSaaS, a zero-per-seat enterprise software suite.
- Pakistan: On February 10, 2026, DFINITY signed a memorandum of understanding with the Digital Authority of Pakistan covering dedicated Pakistan subnets and 1,500 Caffeine licenses.
As of October 5, 2026, the trading price of ICP on CoinGecko was approximately US$3.32, up 10% in seven days, and the 24-hour trading volume reached US$63 million. Its market value is approximately US$1.83 billion.
Conclusion
Atmosphere programming on Internet computers mainly consists of several parts: Caffeine converts prompt words into Motoko code, containers host applications, periodic payment of computing fees, and NNS governs the network. Currently, Caffeine is able to build and update complete Web applications without users editing the code, but certain features, such as Stripe Payments, still run off-chain.
