The exchange signed a letter of intent with Apex Fintech Solutions to make its subsidiaries the exclusive regulated platform for crypto event contracts
The exchange has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Apex Fintech Solutions to make its subsidiary Gemini Titan the exclusive regulated trading venue for crypto event contracts. According to the press release, the contracts will be distributed to Apex's brokerage clients through its Futures Commission Agents (FCM).
Brokers offering these contracts through Apex FCM will use Gemini for execution and clearing. The press release noted that Gemini also provides Apex with flexibility to collaborate on sports, economic and financial market contracts on a non-exclusive basis. Both companies said they look forward to finalizing details in the coming weeks.
Gemini's forward-looking statement describes the arrangement as a non-binding letter of intent and lists risk factors that investors should weigh, including the possibility that the parties fail to reach a final agreement.
Two licenses were approved first
Approval by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is phased in. Gemini Titan received a Designated Contract Market (DCM) license in December 2025, allowing it to begin providing regulated predictive market services to U.S. customers. Gemini originally applied for the license in March 2020. In April this year, its subsidiary Gemini Olympus obtained a Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO) license, bringing Gemini Titan's derivatives clearing and settlement business into internal management.
Taylor Winkleworth, CEO of Gemini, said: "We have leveraged more than a decade of experience in building and operating regulated platforms in the emerging asset class of cryptocurrencies and deliberately chose to build our own forecasting platform." He added that forecasting is the "future of the market," and this approach allows Gemini to "expand our offerings and open access to valuable partners such as Apex as demand for event contracts grows."
The two companies have previously cooperated. In July this year, Gemini launched zero-commission stock trading for some U.S. clients, with Apex Clearing Corporation acting as custodian and clearing broker.
Event contract revenue
Travis McGee, global head of digital markets at Apex, pointed out that brokerage clients "can gain regulated access to crypto event contracts without having to build their own infrastructure." Apex said its infrastructure supports hundreds of customers and tens of millions of end investors, and its subsidiary Apex Clearing Corporation has obtained licenses in 53 states and regions.
Similarly, Robinhood recorded event contract revenue of US$156 million in the second quarter, a year-on-year increase of more than 10 times, with contract transaction volume reaching a record of 13.6 billion. However, Gemini's predictive markets business has been involved in legal disputes. New York State Attorney General Letitia James has sued Coinbase and Gemini's predictive markets division, arguing that they engaged in unlicensed gambling without approval from the New York State Gaming Commission. "Gambling with a different name is still gambling and cannot be exempted from our state's laws and constitution," James said.
