SEI From Wall Street to blockchain: Sei Labs 'underlying refactoring
In January 2021, when GameStop ($GME)'s short-squeeze craze peaked, Robinhood suspended its trading capabilities. The systemic flaws exposed by this incident prevented the two engineers from turning a blind eye.
@jeffdfeng (Jeff Feng), a former Goldman Sachs technology banker who later turned to Coatue for venture capital, and @jayendra_jog (Jay Jog), a former Robinhood software engineer, witnessed the vulnerability of centralized systems under pressure and decided to build a different solution. The two co-founded @Sei_Labs in 2022, aiming to create a transaction infrastructure without any single point of failure. The startup's early engineering team, mostly from Robinhood's clearing department, first understood where centralized systems could collapse.
Market makers Flow Traders and Hudson River Trading supported the project's seed round of financing, led by Multicoin Capital and Coinbase Ventures and GSR, with a total financing of US$5 million. This funding allows @SeiNetwork to build its main network and officially launch it in August 2023.
Giga Refactoring: Chasing 200,000 transactions per second
Sei Labs 并未止步于此。目前，团队正在推出“Giga”——一项雄心勃勃的链上重构计划，目标是将吞吐量提升至每秒 20 万笔交易（TPS），并将最终确认时间压缩至 400 毫秒以内。此次升级通过三大核心组件实现：Autobahn、Ares 和 Eidos，分别针对 Sei 基础设施的不同部分，涵盖共识机制、交易执行和区块链存储。
该项目瞄准超过 20 万 TPS 的目标，而此前网络的吞吐量范围大约在 5,000 至 12,500 TPS 之间。在 2026 年 8 月的 v6.6 主网升级后，存储引擎（Eidos）和执行引擎（Ares）已率先上线。最后一个组件 Autobahn 将引入多提议者共识设计，取代原有的单一提议者模式，从而释放基础性的吞吐量增益，其主网激活将是下一个重要的技术里程碑。
Sei 的内部测试显示，在受控条件下可实现超过 20 万 TPS 的性能，但这些结果并不代表持续的主网实际表现。随着部署的继续，受控基准测试与现实世界负载之间的差距，仍是值得关注的核心变量。
起初，这只是一次对零售交易危机的回应，如今已演变为严肃的基础设施布局。Sei Labs 正将 $SEI 定位为去中心化金融（DeFi）和链上交易应用的高吞吐量家园。
