The spot Bitcoin ETF recorded its most serious weekly outflow since the end of June, with 13 U.S. listed funds making net redemptions of US$389.7 million in the week ending August 10. That reversed the previous week's $853.5 million inflow-the strongest since April, triggered by a cold-wallet hack that temporarily boosted demand for regulated products. The year-to-date capital flow is close to US$5.5 billion, putting the total assets under management in the range of US$77 billion to US$80 billion. BlackRock's IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC drove most of the redemptions. Bitcoin is traded within a narrow range of $63,000-$64,500, with fluctuations of less than 2% during the week, still down about 50% from its October 2025 high of close to $126,000. The 30-day implied volatility has dropped to around 37, indicating weakening speculative interest. The macro environment provides limited support. The Federal Reserve continues to maintain the federal funds rate at 3.50%-3.75%. July's CPI recorded 3.4% year-on-year, with a moderate core reading, retail sales fell 0.6%, and the job market cooled, prompting the market to set only the probability of a September interest rate hike at about 30%. Goldman Sachs called such a move "highly unlikely," but the 10-year yield was close to 4.68%, and the 30-year yield reached 5.3%-the highest since 2007-raising the opportunity cost of non-yielding assets. Geopolitical tensions put further pressure. Escalating friction between the United States and Iran, stagnant peace efforts and reduced shipping in the Strait of Hormuz have pushed Brent crude oil above US$90 and WTI crude oil close to US$84 -85, exacerbating inflation risks and maintaining high policy uncertainty. In contrast, the U.S. stock market remained resilient. The S & P 500 closed near 7,745 points (up about 13% year-to-date), and the Nasdaq index was around 26,645 points (up about 14.6%), driven mainly by artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks. The correlation with Bitcoin remained at a medium level of 0.3-0.5, but price trends diverged: stocks rose and Bitcoin stagnated. Therefore, ETF outflows reflect more than just short-term profit-taking. Higher real yields, energy-driven inflation risks, and the strength of selective stocks leave Bitcoin lacking a clear institutional catalyst, causing the token to remain range-bound and unstable capital flows until interest rates ease or supply risks in the Middle East recede.
