Jason Maurice ("wiz"), operator of MEMPOOL.SPACE, announced plans to submit a community priority application to ICANN for the.bitcoin top-level domain. He believes that without a community-backed application, the.bitcoin top-level domain may be auctioned off to the highest bidder. His proposal would limit registration to verified Bitcoin projects, infrastructure operators, developers, educators, miners, wallets, exchanges and other ecosystem participants, while explicitly excluding altcoin projects. The proposed registry would also commit 21% of its annual revenue to fund open source Bitcoin development. Wiz is seeking public statements of support from Bitcoin organizations and contributors, with the August 12 deadline for ICANN applications.
