Sui Foundation invests $30 million in DATA Network, AI data protocol migrates to Sui blockchain

Sui (@SuiNetwork) Foundation announces $30 million investment in DATA Network (@datafdn) As the AI data protocol officially migrates to the Sui blockchain, the move will make Sui the largest institutional holder of the network, according to an announcement published by @BSCNews.

DATA Network was formerly known as Story Protocol. According to The Block, the protocol will be upgraded to run natively on Sui ($SUI), and its independent chain will be retired.

Impact on $DATA token holders

Existing $DATA tokens will be migrated to the Sui network at a 1:1 ratio. In a joint announcement released through Chainwire, the partners said that $DATA will continue to serve as a token for agreements on the Sui network, with the holder's economic interests and governance rights at least consistent with current ones.

The transition has not yet been completed. The Block reported that the existing DATA Network will continue to operate until the migration is completed, and the foundation will announce a detailed timetable before the upgrade. As of now, the official has not announced the specific relocation date.

Walrus and the AI Data Supply Chain

Walrus (@WalrusProtocol) will become the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications. The announcement states that Walrus aims to store large-scale AI data sets and ensure that the data is only readable by licensed buyers.

This move marks a shift in strategic focus. The Block pointed out that the DATA Foundation shifted its focus from general intellectual property infrastructure to AI training data in June this year. Its Trace registration system is used to track the source and usage rights of training data and settle fees to contributors. According to news released by Chainwire, since its launch, Trace has recorded more than 250 million contributions and processed more than 3 million receipts per day.

Partners said the integration will allow Trace to keep encrypted and immutable copies of contribution files on Walrus, rather than just proving that the files were registered and when they were registered. Its public goal is to expand the scale of the supply chain that provides cutting-edge AI laboratories with compliance authorized AI training data.

For Sui, the deal adds a real-time data traceability product to its AI-focused technology stack; for DATA, it ends the cost of operating a Layer 1 chain separately. The reaction of the market and token holders will depend on an unannounced migration timetable.
