WLD World opens source ProveKit, a zero-knowledge authentication toolkit for external developers
World (formerly known as Worldcoin), a digital identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has officially opened source ProveKit. This is a zero-knowledge proof kit specifically designed for privacy protection authentication.
ProveKit has previously been used within World ID and has entered the early access stage since April this year. It is now officially open to external developers. The tool allows users to prove statements such as age, nationality, and valid identity ownership without disclosing personal data. The encryption certificate is generated directly on the user's mobile phone or browser, and the verifier can only receive the confirmation information of the specific statement being verified, but cannot obtain the underlying personal data.
ProveKit was in development for about two years before being publicly released and is currently available on GitHub under a loose MIT license. The toolkit supports Noir, a Rust inspired programming language developed by Aztec for writing zero-knowledge applications and allows developers to create new provable declarations without having to bundle them directly within the application.
Designed specifically for mobile devices, it has been security audited
Most zero-knowledge proof systems are computationally intensive and usually run on servers or dedicated hardware. ProveKit has been designed from the beginning for mobile devices and resource-constrained devices, using SIMD acceleration algorithms to mine performance from everyday smartphone processors. According to benchmarks, it can be certified in seconds on ordinary mobile phones and in 30 seconds on low-end devices.
The WHIR proof generated by ProveKit is based on post-quantum security assumptions. In the planned v2 version, World aims to further reduce the proof size and generation time, while also considering supporting the Groth 16zk-SNARK method to achieve more efficient on-chain verification between networks such as World Chain, Ethereum, Base and Solana.
This open source is part of World's broader initiative to promote privacy-protecting certification to become neutral, permission-free, publicly accessible infrastructure. By making ProveKit available as an open source license, World is inviting a broader community of developers to build applications on the same cryptographic stack used in its own identity products.
