Bitget updates its institutional API current-limiting framework to improve market maker transaction efficiency
Seychelles, Victoria, September 3, 2026 - Bitget officially implemented the updated institutional API current-limiting framework today. The framework increases the maximum configurable single account limit under the Unified Trading Account (UTA) for eligible market maker (MM1) and PRO6 (PRO6) customers to 600 requests per second (RPS). In addition, the new framework also introduces aggregate current limit limits for main accounts and sub-accounts, which are set separately for UTA spot trading and UTA futures trading, with a maximum of 120,000 requests per second.
The adjusted 600 RPS cap is only applicable to the highest levels of MM1 and PRO6 users; other levels of market makers and PRO users will receive correspondingly lower single account and aggregate limits, while the current limiting rules for the classic account model remain unchanged. It should be noted that the maximum cap is not automatically applied-institutions need to configure quotas for each UID based on their trading strategy and account structure, and the total of all sub-account allocations must not exceed the aggregate cap for that level.
For sub-accounts created after initialization, you need to manually configure current limit. If no specific quota is set, Bitget's disclosure framework will default to 10 requests per second once the mechanism takes effect. Bitget recommends that existing eligible users complete the configuration before the effective date to avoid falling back to default limits due to lack of configuration.
Why is current limiting important to market makers?
API current limits determine how often an automated trading system submits, cancels and replaces orders, obtains account data, and manages workflows without being throttled. For market makers who quote across multiple varieties or operate multiple sub-accounts, higher, more granular single UID caps reduce the need to spread activity across additional accounts simply to increase request capacity. Bitget pointed out that the new architecture allows institutions to increase limits for specific UIDs without opening new accounts.
This update is part of Bitget's broader institutional services system, covering unified trading accounts, whitelist sub-accounts and API management, block trading and over-the-counter (OTC) trading. This layout positions Bitget as an execution layer in the institutional transaction architecture rather than a custodian. Typically, institutional users gain execution access on exchanges such as Bitget while holding custody assets through independent arrangements, a multi-provider structure that is common across the industry.
Scope and Configuration Notes
This framework is available to market makers (MM) and PRO users who trade spot and futures through Bitget Unified Trading Accounts.
