Why direct comparison is more valuable than rankings
Rankings answer the question "Which exchange performs better overall". However, before opening an account, the practical question faced by everyone is often different: choose this one or that one? When two names are placed on the table, the difference often boils down to three specific numbers rather than an overall rating.
Therefore, each pairing we offer has a dedicated comparison page that displays key indicators side by side: published transaction rates, cost of purchasing 1000 euros, number of tradable cryptocurrency assets, payment method, and regulatory status. This article reviews the most frequently searched sets of direct comparison data.
The most expensive confusion: two products from the same provider
Before specific pairing comparisons, there is a point that the rankings cannot capture, but will be immediately revealed every direct comparison: multiple providers operate two independent interfaces, and the prices vary widely.
At Binance, a simple instant purchase costs 1.75%, while a transaction through a professional interface costs only 0.10%. For a purchase of 1000 euros, this is a difference of 17.50 euros and 1.00 euros respectively. With the same provider and the same login account, the difference is as high as seventeen times. Similar situations exist between Coinbase and Coinbase Advanced, and between Bitpanda and Bitpanda Fusion.
Therefore, anyone reading comparative data should first confirm which product it covers. If you directly compare the simple interface of one provider with the professional interface of another provider, you are actually comparing two very different things.

The most searched list of direct comparisons
The following data is derived from the respective comparison pages. The basic calculation is based on Bitcoin purchases of € 1000, based on published transaction rates. Price mark-up is not included here; see the explanation below.
The last line is worth adding a footnote, because zero rates do not mean free. When rates are not published, providers profit from price increases that are not publicly disclosed. Simply looking at the comparison in the rate column will mistake it as the cheapest provider on the market.
What cannot be shown in rate numbers
The transaction rates published are only part of the price voluntarily declared by the provider. In addition, there are three items that usually don't appear in the price list, but often add up to more:
- The price markup: The price you buy may deviate from the market price. For providers that do not publish rates, this mark-up is their business model. Externally, it can only be measured by comparing multiple quotes in the same second.
- The withdrawal fee: This fee will be charged when you transfer coins to your wallet and depends on network conditions. On the comparison page, it has a separate line because it can exceed the transaction rate for small amounts.
- The minimum amount: It determines whether a rate tier is within your reach. If the minimum purchase amount is higher than your budget, no matter how low the percentage is, it won't help.

Two providers, same purchase amount: Differences rarely appear where advertising suggests
Regulatory issues are equally important
Since the implementation of the Cryptographic Asset Markets Regulation (MiCA), crypto service providers within the EU are required to comply with uniform licensing requirements. This makes "direct comparison" a hard criterion because it has nothing to do with price but determines whether a service is available.
OKX holds MiCA licenses through Malta, as does crypto.com, Bitpanda is licensed in multiple EU countries, and eToro operates under the supervision of CySEC. According to Binance's own statement, it withdrew its license application to Greek regulators in June 2026, as well as its application to Germany's BaFin; it has not yet been specified which EU state will take over. For retail investors in the EU, margin and futures products are also restricted locally.
If you want to check both aspects of direct comparison on this issue, the regulatory status will be listed as a separate line on each comparison page with a date. For a complete overview, see our comparison of regulated crypto exchanges.
Direct comparison of other high-frequency searches
In addition to the above five sets of configurations, the comparison between crypto exchanges and traditional brokers is also a content that is frequently visited. This is a special case where the rate does not play a dominant role; the key is whether you actually receive the coin or just participate in its price performance.
- Bitpanda vs. Flatex vs. comdirect vs. eToro: Crypto providers vs. Custody banks
- Revolut vs. Scalable Capital: Two new brokers with vastly different pricing models
- Bitpanda vs. crypto.com and Binance vs. Bitpanda: European providers vs. Global providers
- Bitcoin.de vs. Kraken Pro: German exchange market vs. International exchange
- eToro vs. Plus500: Two providers focused on derivatives
If you are looking for an overall picture rather than a single direct comparison, you can find it in the crypto exchange comparisons of all providers we evaluated.
How to interpret direct comparison data
The weight of each line of data depends on your intention. Here are three typical scenarios and their decisive factors:
- One-time purchase and long-term holding: What matters is the cost and withdrawal fee per 1000 euros, because you will eventually transfer coins into your wallet. The number of tradable cryptocurrency assets is a secondary issue.
- Monthly fixed investment plan: What is important is the percentage rate because it will be accumulated repeatedly with each payment, plus a minimum amount limit. Taking a monthly investment of 200 euros as an example, a one-percentage point difference will lead to a cost difference of about 240 euros over ten years.
- Active trading: What matters is the market maker and buyer models and their volume levels, not the entry price. Here, professional interfaces from large providers are typically ten times cheaper than their instant purchase variants.
There is one thing that is not reflected in all comparisons, but still determines success or failure: whether you can withdraw your funds at a critical moment. Provider status pages often show withdrawal issues earlier than any news report, and providers without an EU license can restrict their product supply to retail investors at any time.
Frequently Asked Questions on Exchange Comparison
Which crypto exchange has the lowest fees?
Among the announced trading rates, the professional interface leads, with Binance Pro accounting for 0.10%. In the simple instant purchase interface, Bitvavo leads Bitpanda's 0.99% and Binance's 1.75%. Providers that do not publish rates profit from price increases.
What is the difference between Binance and Binance Pro?
is the same provider, the same account, but with two different interfaces. The cost of instant purchase is 1.75%, and the cost of trading through professional view is 0.10%. Similar divisions exist for Coinbase Advanced and Bitpanda Fusion.
Can exchanges without MiCA license be used in Germany?
Access rights usually still exist, but product supply may be restricted, especially for leveraged products. Whether or not the provider obtains permission is displayed in the regulatory line on each comparison page.
Does where I buy have a tax impact?
It does not affect the tax amount, but it affects the workload. The key is whether the provider can provide available transaction record export functions. See the tax rules for more details in our German Crypto Tax article.
Why are the rates here different from the provider's own data?
The data here are prices listed on the day of collection. Discount levels based on transaction volume, payments using provider-owned tokens, or time-limited promotions can change these numbers. Before you open an account, the provider's price page is decisive.
