FollowingTesla's next-generation Roadster will be officially released on October 1
After nearly nine years of anticipation, Tesla has officially confirmed the release date of its next-generation Roadster supercar as October 1. Elon Musk promises that this model will provide a "stunning" experience. Podcast host Jason Calacanis described it as a "jaw-dropping" design after watching it privately.
It is said that the supercar will incorporate SpaceX's aerospace innovation and may be equipped with a cold air thruster system. In pre-market trading on Tuesday, TSLA shares fell 0.2% to $358.33, a year-to-date decline of 20%.
Several well-known reservation holders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and technology YouTuber MKBHD (Marques Brownlee), have withdrawn their $50,000 deposit after years of waiting.
New car unveiling and market expectations
Tesla released a news item titled "Go for launch" via the X platform, officially announcing that it will showcase the high-profile new generation Roadster on October 1. In the picture, Roadster appears under dramatic lighting, with the word "10.01" marked at the bottom.
The redesigned Roadster was originally introduced by Musk in November 2017 and was originally planned to begin production in 2020, but the deadline has not been fulfilled. Now, nearly nine years after the original announcement, Tesla has announced that the vehicle is ready for its second public appearance.
In pre-market trading on Tuesday, TSLA shares traded at US$358.33, down 0.2%. The stock has retreated 20% since the beginning of the year, and has dropped 12% in the past 12 months.
Musk and Calacanis 'comments on the new car
Musk had an extensive discussion with SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell during Monday's "All-In Podcast" show. Although it covers multiple topics, Roadster has received a lot of attention. "Guaranteed exciting," Musk said of the upcoming unveiling event.
Podcast co-host Jason Calacanis claimed Musk had provided him with a private preview and expressed even stronger enthusiasm. "My brain exploded instantly," he said."What he showed on October 1st will shock everyone."
Calacanis suggested that the initial footage of the vehicle may be so shocking that viewers may wonder whether the content is real or AI-generated.
Expected Roadster specifications
Tesla has historically promoted the car with an astonishing 0-60 mph acceleration in just 1.9 seconds, a top speed of more than 250 mph, and a cruising range of 620 miles. These performance indicators will make it one of the most powerful production cars ever built.
Musk also hinted that he would work with SpaceX to integrate a cold air thruster system, which could allow the vehicle to temporarily suspend above the ground. He described it as "rocket-like Stuff." Specific implementation details of the technology will be clarified at next week's unveiling ceremony.
This model will feature a convertible design and be priced at a higher price. In 2017, Tesla required a $50,000 deposit for the standard version and a $250,000 advance payment for the exclusive founder series.
Long wait for reservation holders
Tesla began collecting deposits in 2017. During an October 2024 earnings conference call, Musk thanked those reservation holders who had "suffered for a long time" for their continued patience.
However, not everyone has kept their promises. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and well-known YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) have both publicly confirmed cancellations of bookings. After Tesla announced the unveiling date, Brownlee responded: "Good, good, good."
Market observers focus mainly on Tesla's artificial intelligence initiatives rather than its automotive portfolio. The company launched an AI-based unmanned taxi service in June 2025, despite slow adoption. Tesla continues to advance the development of its humanoid robots through the Optimus project.
Industry observers speculate that the Optimus robot may be unveiled with Roadster at its October 1 launch event.
As of now, Tesla has not established an exact production schedule or customer delivery time frame for Roadster.
