Analysis of Growth in Filecoin Open Interest Positions

Filecoin (FIL)'s open interest positions increased by 48% in U.S. dollars, but only increased by 25% in FIL tokens. This data shows that rising prices are the main factor driving the increase in open positions.

Sanitation data shows that as of 06:00 UTC on September 14, Filecoin's open contract positions were 128.8 million FILs, higher than the daily record of 119.6 million FILs on September 13. During this period, FIL prices briefly hit the $1.00-$1.03 range, before falling back to around $0.805. Currently, FIL prices are still below its 50-day moving average, but above its 200-day moving average.

Dollar denominated positions rise as FIL prices rise

According to a report from Sanitation Intelligence, Filecoin's open contract positions rose sharply between September 12 and September 13. Data showed that open interest positions denominated in US dollars climbed 48% to US$11.39 million, while positions denominated in FIL increased 18%. When measured by the number of FIL tokens, open interest positions increased by 25%. This suggests that new market exposure accounted for only part of the overall increase, with the rest mainly driven by price revaluation.
