"Uptober" is not worthy of its name: Cryptocurrency ETFs suffer capital outflows
According to Decrypt's ETF tracking data, the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF recorded a capital inflow of US$21.1 million on Friday. Although it rebounded from consecutive net outflows of $484.9 million on Wednesday and $244.1 million on Thursday, it was still a moderate rebound. Even so, the funds 'overall net capital flow remained a net outflow of $386.3 million in the first seven trading days of October.
Bitcoin and other crypto asset ETFs allow investors to gain exposure to digital assets without using a crypto exchange or wallet. These funds track asset prices and trade like stocks in broker apps. Since their launch, they have achieved great success, and the flow of funds has become an important indicator of current market sentiment.
The market performed strongly in early October, with overall capital inflows reaching US$292.6 million on October 1 and 2. However, an inflow of $118.8 million on October 6 failed to offset subsequent selling pressure, making Wednesday the fund's worst day since June.
This is in sharp contrast to the trend in September. Previously, the Senate's failure to close debate on the Clarity Act triggered a large outflow of funds in mid-September, but then the Bitcoin ETF achieved a nine-day inflow of funds into the streak, totaling approximately $3 billion. This wave of inflows has brought year-to-date capital flows in 2026 back into a positive range.
Ethereum ETF performance is weak
In contrast, the Ethereum ETF performed even worse. Related funds lost $56.1 million on Friday, extending the outflow of funds from streak to nine consecutive trading days. So far, they have lost $635 million in October and have lost nearly $700 million over the entire outflow period. The largest one-day outflow occurred on October 6, with an amount of US$201.9 million. Since launch, cumulative net inflows have been US$13.2 billion, and total net assets have been US$14.5 billion.
Solana ETF lost slightly
Solana ETF also lost money in October, albeit on a smaller scale. On Friday, the fund lost $3.8 million, its fifth consecutive day of outflows, bringing the net total in October to a loss of $24.8 million. The only inflow of funds this month occurred on October 2, at $1.3 million. Currently, the cumulative net inflow is US$137.9 million.
For Bitcoin ETF, the cumulative net inflow since its launch has totaled US$57.6 billion, and total net assets have reached US$100.6 billion (Data source: Decrypt Tracker).
