The White House announces the establishment of permanent presence on the moon

The official Trump administration account "@WhiteHouse" issued a straightforward statement on October 8:"The United States will establish a permanent presence on the moon." The post did not include a specific timetable or operational details, leaving it to observers to fill in the gaps themselves.

This announcement was not without warning. It strengthens an executive order issued in December 2025 that directs NASA to return Americans to the moon by 2028 and establish initial facilities for a permanent lunar outpost by 2030. In his post, Trump pointed out that the effort was carried out within the framework of NASA's Artemis program, and said U.S. astronauts would "return soon to establish a permanent presence on the U.S. moon."

It is reported that NASA is developing a three-phase plan: first sending robotic missions to the lunar surface, followed by building infrastructure such as power, communications and transportation. The final phase will begin in 2032, when NASA will build a permanent lunar outpost.

However, SpaceX and Blue Origin are developing competing lunar landers for NASA, but both have experienced technical difficulties and schedule delays.

What does this mean for cryptocurrencies?

For the cryptocurrency community, this announcement sends a familiar signal. In recent years, every major cultural moment has spawned a wave of memecoins, and the White House-backed lunar colonization push is clearly no exception. There is almost certainly already someone on various blockchains developing moon-themed tokens, projects with the lunar brand, and coins inspired by Artemis.

Whether the mission itself can actually start is another matter. NASA's Office of the Inspector General has warned that the agency currently lacks the ability to retrieve astronauts trapped on the lunar surface after a catastrophic emergency. Ambitions are real, and the obstacles are just as great. But for memoin creators, none of this may matter.
