BlackRock's spot bitcoin ETF IBIT rose nearly 6% intraday, with capital inflows estimated at approximately US$300 million.
During the latest trading session, BlackRock's spot bitcoin ETF IBIT prices climbed nearly 6%, and its single-day capital inflow forecast was close to US$300 million. Market observers interpreted this as a renewed interest in regulated Bitcoin exposure. It should be noted that the above two data are estimates and still need to wait for the confirmation of the final capital flow data.
According to BlackRock's iShares product page, IBIT is the trading code of iShares Bitcoin Trust, a spot ETF that represents shareholders directly holding Bitcoin. Because the fund tracks the price of underlying assets, the nearly 6% increase in its share price largely reflects the strong performance of the Bitcoin spot market, rather than premiums based on leverage or derivatives.
An estimated one-day inflow of approximately US$300 million, if confirmed, would mean that new money is entering the fund, not just a swap of shares. The daily net capital flow data of the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF can be queried on relevant platforms, and investors can compare the final data with the current day's estimates.
Why the forecast of capital inflows does not equal the final confirmation data
Only when new funds are used to create fund shares, thereby expanding the amount of bitcoins held by the trust, an inflow of funds from an ETF is constituted. This is very different from trading volume, which measures the behavior of investors to buy and sell shares and does not change the fund's actual positions.
The capital inflow figures for the same trading day are provisional data. Estimated flows of funds circulated during trading days or shortly after the close of a trade are often revised before final data is released. Therefore, the approximately US$300 million mentioned here should be regarded as unconfirmed estimates rather than official statistics.
The situation in recent trading days has fully demonstrated that the flow of funds can be quickly reversed. The U.S. spot bitcoin ETF recently recorded a single-day net outflow, and the overall market rebounded. A one-day rise does not mean a sustained trend.
What this trend means for Bitcoin market sentiment
Since IBIT directly holds spot Bitcoin, its price movements and capital inflows are often used as a yardstick to measure institutional demand. Traders who focus on this group's participation often believe that positive capital flows for several consecutive days are more signaling than single-day data.
It would be prudent to wait for the next final funding flow update announced on the public data platform before reaching a conclusion. A recent Bitcoin market update report shows that ETF capital flows and on-chain and network indicators jointly affect short-term market sentiment.
The basis for all these indicators remains Bitcoin's network fundamentals-which are independent of the daily flow of funds from any fund. Regardless of whether an ETF adds or withdraws funds on a certain trading day, Bitcoin's difficulty adjustment mechanism will operate normally, which reminds us that the demand for an ETF is only a manifestation based on the agreement, and the agreement's issuance schedule will not be changed due to the inflow of funds.
