Ethereum prices are consolidating around US$2,470, and on-chain data reveals major changes in supply.
Ethereum prices are currently consolidation around US$2,470 after a rebound in August. At the same time, on-chain data shows that the supply of ETH has undergone dramatic changes. Ethereum reserves on Binance fell to their lowest level in three months, while pledges hit a record high, leading to a reduction in the amount of ETH available for trading in the market. These developments are expected to limit potential selling pressure and create a positive market pattern; however, breaking the $2,540 resistance level is seen as key if ETH prices are to regain momentum.
Binance Ethereum reserves fall to three-month low
According to CryptoQuant data, the Ethereum reserves held on Binance platform have dropped to approximately 3.74 million ETH, hitting the lowest level in nearly three months. In addition, total ETH reserves on large exchanges also fell to approximately 14.88 million ETH, a multi-year low. A reduction in exchange reserves could mean a decline in the amount of ETH that investors can directly sell. Although this situation by itself does not guarantee a price increase, if demand strengthens, limited liquidity supply may add to the upward push on Ethereum prices.
Pledge growth and spot buying demand
As exchange reserves decline, strong growth in Ethereum pledges has also attracted attention. Data shows that approximately 43.1 million ETH are currently pledged, accounting for approximately 35.9% of the circulating Ethereum supply. The increase in pledge volume further limits the amount of ETH that can be bought and sold immediately in the market. Taking into account the decline in exchange reserves and the increase in pledge rates, it can be seen that Ethereum's liquidity supply has been significantly tightened. However, for this supply structure to support prices, it will also require increased demand from buyers in the spot market.
Large investors maintain bullish expectations
According to CoinGlass data, among the major investors in Binance, long positions account for 59.05%, short positions account for 40.95%, and the long-short ratio is approximately 1.44. The size of Ethereum's open interest remained at approximately US$33.73 billion, indicating that investor interest in the derivatives market remains strong. The dominance of long positions supports rising expectations, but the use of high leverage also brings risks. If ETH falls below key support levels, long liquidations could accelerate selling pressure.
Technical Analysis and Key Points
Ethereum fluctuates in the range of around $2,470, with $2,372 technically being an important support level. Maintaining prices above this region is crucial to maintaining the current consolidation pattern. In the upward direction, after the psychological level of $2,500,$2,540 is the main resistance level. The RSI indicator fell back to around 60.5, indicating that previous strong buying momentum has weakened. The parabolic SAR indicator is above prices, which also suggests that short-term downward pressure has not been completely eliminated. If ETH can achieve a lasting breakthrough above US$2,540, the upward momentum is expected to strengthen again.
Assessment Summary
Regarding Ethereum, the reduction in exchange reserves and the record growth in pledges are gradually compressing the supply of liquidity ETH in the market. Binance reserves dropped to 3.74 million ETH, and approximately 43.1 million ETH entered the pledge system, creating a remarkable situation on the supply side. Still, reduced supply alone will not be enough to drive prices higher, so strengthening spot demand will be the decisive factor. From a technical perspective, the support level of $2,372 is maintained, while the level of $2,500 and especially $2,540 is critical for upward movement. If ETH can break through the resistance level of US$2,540, it will provide a stronger technical signal to break the current consolidation pattern.
