XRP may eventually surpass Bitcoin in market value? David Schwartz explains this
According to David Schwartz, former Ripple CTO and co-founder of XRP Ledger, XRP may eventually surpass Bitcoin in market value. Digital Perspectives conveyed this view to viewers in a video accompanying an X (originally Twitter) post that included Schwartz's views on "whether XRP can surpass Bitcoin."
Although there is a huge valuation gap behind this issue, Schwartz does not describe it as a scenario where Bitcoin must fall. Instead, he believes that as the overall digital asset market expands, XRP is expected to achieve this milestone by growing faster than Bitcoin.
In the video, Digital Perspectives introduced Schwartz's comments and pointed out that the former Ripple CTO and XRP Ledger co-founder had thought XRP had the potential to overtake Bitcoin.
In the video, the host asked Schwartz if he believed XRP could surpass Bitcoin. "Yes, I believe." Schwartz replied.
He immediately clarified how he thought this might happen: "But I don't think it will happen because Bitcoin shrinks, but because XRP is growing faster than Bitcoin."
Digital Perspectives took this statement as the core point of the video, showing viewers Schwartz's own explanation for why it was considered possible for XRP to "flip" Bitcoin.
Schwartz is optimistic about the overall growth of the crypto market
Schwartz's views are based on the continued expansion of the digital asset market. He said that the prices of major cryptocurrencies could rise significantly without requiring a devaluation of one asset to benefit another.
"We live in a world where digital assets are extremely successful. They are likely to grow,"Schwartz said." There may be a few projects that will be eliminated, but all major currencies will grow significantly."
Therefore, his view does not rely on Bitcoin crashing or losing most of its current market value. Instead, XRP needs to outperform Bitcoin in the long term.
Schwartz also pointed out that XRP Ledger's technology may be one reason why XRP has captured more growth potential. "XRP Ledger will receive more growth dividends due to higher functionality, and/or higher speeds, and/or people's interest in features that Bitcoin cannot support," he said.
XRP faces a huge market value gap
The current difference in market value between these two assets shows the scale of potential changes. Bitcoin's market value is approximately US$1.54 trillion, while XRP's market value is approximately one-eighteenth of that.
To match Bitcoin's current market value, XRP needs to add approximately US$1.49 trillion in value. Based on current supply, this would bring the price of XRP close to $24.50.
However, Schwartz did not give a target price of $24.50 or $25. The figure is based on calculations of current market capitalization and XRP supply, rather than Schwartz's forecasts.
He focused on the conditions for allowing XRP to surpass Bitcoin. "I think the world where we want to achieve this is a world where all markets become much bigger," Schwartz said.
