Robinhood spent US$25 million to buy Bitcoin and officially include it on the company's balance sheet.
Trading giant Robinhood App has spent US$25 million to buy Bitcoin and include it on the company's own balance sheet. This is the first time the Nasdaq-listed broker has invested company funds directly into assets it has long provided to retail customers. This trend was initially flagged by online data analysis platform Arkham and was later confirmed by Robinhood executives.
The move is a signal, not a comprehensive treasury plan
The disclosure originated from Johann Kerrat, Robinhood's senior vice president and general manager of cryptocurrency and international operations. In a speech at the Asian Digital Assets Summit on October 7, 2026, he pointed out that the purchase was intended to send a signal rather than launch a comprehensive bitcoin reserve accumulation plan. Kerbrat linked the move to Robinhood's broader crypto business, including its launch of the "Robinhood Chain."
Kerbrat said the goal was to "make people understand Robinhood's commitment to the field" while acknowledging that for a company with a market value of approximately $100 billion, a $25 million position "would not significantly change the company's established trajectory."
It should be emphasized that this purchase is completely separate from the approximately $25 billion of customer crypto assets that Robinhood hosts on behalf of users. As of June 30, 2026, Robinhood reported having US$5.36 billion in cash and cash equivalents and US$155 million in stablecoin positions. Therefore, the bitcoin purchase amount only accounted for less than 0.5% of his cash balance.
Currently, Robinhood has not issued a press release or form 8-K document on this issue, and the exact amount of bitcoins has not been officially confirmed. Third-party estimates show that based on an average bid price of approximately US$84,960, its open position is approximately 294 BTC.
is deeply involved in the crypto field, but only now holds Bitcoin
This purchase comes at a time when Robinhood, led by CEO Vlad Tenev, is adopting an aggressive expansion strategy in the crypto field. The company continues to expand its crypto business landscape through perpetual contracts, tokenization of shares, the acquisition of Bitstamp and its Ethereum Layer 2 network "Robinhood Chain."
"Robinhood Chain" is a blockchain built by the company and will be officially launched on the main network on July 1, 2026. The platform aims to directly link stocks, funds and other real-world assets, allowing users to store them in self-managed wallets and enable round-the-clock trading.
Despite deep cryptographic integration, the $25 million purchase marks the first time Robinhood has held $BTC on its own books. The move shows that the company's fit with the crypto industry is deepening as it expands in transactions and blockchain services. However, Robinhood has not said whether it will further expand its Bitcoin position.
