The lock-up period for early supporters of Aptos has ended, and the average monthly token release volume has been reduced by approximately 60%.
Layer-1 blockchain network Aptos will complete the four-year lock-up plan for core contributors and early supporters on October 12, 2026. As the program ends, its monthly APT token releases are expected to decrease by approximately 60%.
The lock-up period for early supporters and contributors ends
The last batch of tokens for core contributors and early supporters has been distributed on September 12, 2026. According to the Aptos Foundation statement, this time point coincides with the fourth anniversary of its main network's launch in October 2022, marking the official end of the official lockdown cycle.
During the network creation phase, Aptos allocated 190 million APTs to core contributors and 134.78 million APTs to early supporters, totaling 324.78 million tokens, accounting for 32.48% of the total supply of the initial 1 billion tokens. The tokens were locked for 12 months and were subsequently unlocked on a monthly basis for the next 36 months.
Previously, 11.31 million APTs were released monthly, of which 6.77 million went to core contributors and early supporters. With the end of the lockdown program, only 4.54 million APTs will be released every month to the community and Aptos Foundation pool until 2032. These two pools release 1/120 of their remaining tokens each month.
This shift reduced the annual token release from approximately 135.7 million APTs to 54.5 million. The Aptos Foundation confirmed the 60% decline in a previous token economics update and predicted that its grant grants will fall by more than half from 2026 to 2027.
At present, there are still 331.69 million APTs locked in community and foundation lockdown pools. As of September 30, 2026, Aptos 'circulation supply was 871.02 million APTs, while the total supply was close to 1.2 billion APTs.
Pledge rewards and supply dynamics
At present, pledge has become the main source of new APT tokens entering circulation. The annualized pledge yield of the network has dropped from 5.19% to 2.6%, resulting in approximately 19.8 million new APTs being minted every year. Currently, approximately 763 million APTs (63% of the total supply) are pledged in node validators. Unblocking tokens requires a waiting period of up to 14 days.
All transaction fees on Aptos have been destroyed to reduce supply pressure. From launch to mid-September 2026, the network has destroyed a total of approximately 1.9 million APTs through destruction transaction fees.
A recent upgrade has increased Gas Fee tenfold, but stablecoin transfers remain low on Aptos, at approximately US$0.00014 per transfer.
Aptos 'token economics is limited by a hard cap of 2.1 billion APTs. The cap was established after the passage of on-chain Proposition #183, when 335.2 million APTs voted in favor and about 1,500 voted against it.
Aptos minted 1 billion APTs when it was launched, and has since generated another 196 million tokens through pledge. Under the rigid upper limit, approximately 904 million APTs can still be introduced into the ecosystem.
The Aptos Foundation announced that it will permanently lock and pledge 210 million APTs. This pledge accounts for approximately 37% of the foundation's main network positions and will not be sold or distributed. Instead, the proceeds generated by the pledge will be used to fund the foundation's continued operations.
Institutional Adoption and Real World Assets (RWA)
Aptos currently holds approximately US$723 million in real world assets. Major financial institutions including Franklin Templeton and BlackRock have launched tokenized fund products on the network. In January this year, Bitnomial launched its first regulated APT futures contracts in the United States.
Aptos is a Layer-1 blockchain focused on high-throughput and low-latency transactions, developed by former Meta engineers.
Small Dictionary: Bitnomial
