Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) has introduced a major interface upgrade to the decentralized exchange (DEX) and automated market maker (AMM) features within its Pi wallet testing network, optimizing the user experience before the potential mainnetwork is fully launched. The move coincides with the network's transition to Protocol 27, which was launched to Testnet 1 on August 21, with a target date of September 15, 2026 for the main network.
Protocol 27: The last step before DEX goes online
After the successful upgrade of Protocol 26 on the Pi main network, the test network is now running Protocol 27. This upgrade introduces a more flexible and secure smart contract authentication method, providing additional transaction authorization paths for accounts and applications. Protocol 27 is also expected to provide for network infrastructure such as RPC servers, decentralized exchange functions and AMM liquidity pools, which support network connectivity, trading activity and liquidity.
The planned deployment is advanced from Testnet 1 to Testnet 2 before landing on the main network, with the current target date of September 15. The core team has described Agreement 27 as the last planned upgrade in the current sequence. Notably, the roadmap has been expanded to include protocol 28.0, indicating that development efforts will remain active beyond the current upgrade cycle.
DEX built for mass adoption
The redesign of the new DEX interface is not purely a beautification. Pi Network DEX represents a shift in the ecosystem from the mobile mining stage to a functional decentralized financial environment. As a native AMM, the DEX allows users to exchange $PI for other eco-tokens directly within the Pi browser. The core team prioritizes practicality over speculation and aims to provide a secure entry point for non-technical users.
To create a healthy trading environment at launch, Pi Launchpad is being used to create a token pipeline with substantial utility and liquidity. This structure is designed to prevent DEX from being flooded with speculative tokens at launch, a common vulnerability in emerging decentralized exchanges.
The network supporting this upgrade is huge. Since its launch in 2019, the Pi network has run on 420,000 active nodes and has grown to tens of millions of active users around the world. It is based on mobile mining and does not require high-energy-consuming hardware.
With Protocol 27 currently being tested and the September 15 mainnet deadline approaching, the question facing the community is straightforward: Is this the last upgrade of DEX before it goes online on the mainnet?
