Peter Schiff warns: Despite receiving $1.6 billion in liquidity injection, MSTR still faces a "deat

Schiff maintains a bearish view

MicroStrategy shares have risen in line with Bitcoin's recent surge, with Bitcoin remaining above $80,000 on Thursday, and the company's shares trading around $137.40. However, economist Peter Schiff said the rally did not change his negative view of the company's large holdings of Bitcoin.

Peter Schiff, who is known as a critic of Bitcoin, believes that part of the reason for MicroStrategy's recent rally may be short covering rather than improving the company's fundamentals. He continued to emphasize that the company's model carries huge risks by relying on Bitcoin price movements.

MicroStrategy, led by Executive Chairman Michael Siler, is a publicly traded software company that has invested billions of dollars in Bitcoin and is now often seen as an alternative investment target for the cryptocurrency. Schiff believes that if the value of Bitcoin falls significantly, MicroStrategy could face a "death spiral." He highlighted the company's preferred stock dividend obligations and its ability to rely on stable access to attractive capital market financing as potential weaknesses. Schiff described MicroStrategy as "prone to a potential death spiral due to preferred stock obligations and reliance on favorable capital market conditions." He further questioned whether the company would be able to meet its financial commitments if market conditions deteriorated or Bitcoin experienced significant fluctuations.

Stock prices rise after Bitcoin

MicroStrategy's share price closely follows Bitcoin, and as Bitcoin has risen, the company's Bitcoin holdings have recently generated considerable unrealized profits. Earlier this month, the company's share price soared as the cryptocurrency market regained strength. The entire industry has also benefited from the surge in demand. The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF achieved net inflows for nine consecutive days, with market capital inflows exceeding US$3 billion, which helped boost the price of Bitcoin and the value of cryptocurrency-related stocks such as MicroStrategy.

MicroStrategy (MSTR): The stock price rebounded to approximately US$137.40 (Bitcoin remained above US$80,000), and the main risk was Bitcoin's heavy position strategy.

Liquidity measures and persistent risk

To strengthen its financial strength, MicroStrategy has created a $1.6 billion cash pool dedicated to further acquisitions of Bitcoin, share buybacks and other treasury activities. According to Reuters, the move increases flexibility and may reduce short-term liquidity risk. Although this cash reserve alleviated some concerns about sudden declines, the company remains highly sensitive to fluctuations in Bitcoin prices. Siler continued to express confidence in the bitcoin-centric strategy, emphasizing his belief that the cryptocurrency will remain a key driver of company value. The company's expanding liquidity pool reduces short-term risk, but MicroStrategy's large exposure to Bitcoin means its valuation is likely to fluctuate with the cryptocurrency market.

For those unfamiliar with it, Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency launched in 2009. It has no central authority operating it, and its price fluctuates significantly due to global demand, regulatory dynamics and investor sentiment.
