Binance added four cryptocurrencies to its monitoring list and removed 14 Alpha recommended tokens.
On September 4, Binance added four cryptocurrencies: AVAX, GNS, SCR and TOWNS to its Monitoring Tag list. At the same time, Binance also removed 14 tokens from Binance Alpha's recommended list.
Meaning and Impact of Monitoring Labels
Tokens marked as "Monitoring" can still continue to be traded, but will face more stringent scrutiny. If the project party fails to meet relevant standards, these tokens may face the risk of being removed from the shelves. Projects included on the monitoring list include AVA (AVA), Gains Network (GNS), Scroll (SCR) and Towns Protocol (TOWNS). This designation aims to remind users that these tokens have higher volatility and risk compared to other assets listed on the main Binance exchange.
Binance's monitoring tag does not mean that transactions will be stopped immediately or relevant services will be cancelled. Instead, Binance will review these four projects more frequently. If the exchange determines that the project no longer meets listing requirements, it may eventually remove it from the shelves. In this announcement, Binance did not point out that there were specific violations or specific weaknesses in each project.
During the review process, the Council comprehensively considers multiple indicators, including transaction volume, liquidity, development activity and the project team's continued commitment. In addition, cybersecurity, the stability of smart contracts, public communication and response to due diligence requests are also important assessment factors. Other considerations include increased token supply, changes in token economics, and evidence of fraud, unethical or negligent behavior. Binance said that based on subsequent review results, the status of monitoring tags may be adjusted.
Users who trade monitored tagged assets in Binance spot or leveraged accounts are typically required to complete a risk awareness test every 90 days and accept the applicable terms. These requirements are designed to ensure that traders are fully aware of the possible risks of increased volatility or removal.
Binance Alpha removes 14 recommended assets
Binance Alpha is an early token discovery feature within Binance Wallet, not the main spot market. The recommended list for this feature will remove 14 tokens starting from 16:30 UTC+8 on September 4, including MTP, BDXN, TALE, BOS, MAIGA, TIMI, SAROS, U, SERAPH, RVV, AIAV, PENGUIN, ODOS and SN3. Although these tokens no longer appear on Alpha's recommended list, users can still withdraw cash through Alpha's asset page, sell them using the instant order function, or trade them through the Binance Wallet's market interface.
It should be clear that removal from the Alpha recommended list is not the same as removal from the main exchange. This means that these assets no longer appear on the select token list, but services provided through other Binance products will not be automatically terminated. The affected projects include Multiple Network's MTP, Bondex Token's BDXN, StimTale AI's TALE, BitcoinOS's BOS, Maiga.ai's MAIGA, MetaArena's TIMI, Saros, Union, SERAPH, REVIVE, and AI Avatar, Nietzschean Penguin, Odos and Nebula3. Binance said the projects failed to meet Alpha's standards in the latest review, but did not disclose specific reasons for each decision.
Alpha removes the difference from spot removal
Binance Alpha mainly provides access to early projects with limited liquidity and sharp price fluctuations. Being selected for Alpha does not mean that the token will inevitably qualify for a master spot listing; similarly, removal from Alpha does not mean that the token has been removed from the market by the main exchange. Binance recommends that users conduct independent research before trading affected assets outside Binance wallets.
Complete spot removal usually sets separate deadlines for transactions, top-ups and withdrawals, and may affect contracts, leverage, loans, wealth management and other products and services. However, Binance has not announced such broad deadline limits for these 14 Alpha tokens.
Monitoring labels are not the final decision to remove shelves
Monitoring labels serve only as a warning sign, not a final delisting decision. If the project party resolves the identified issues and passes subsequent review, Binance can remove the monitoring label. However, tokens labeled as surveillance do face a higher possibility of removal. Previously, Binance removed six cryptocurrencies in August, four of which had received prior notification of surveillance tags.
The latest announcement does not provide a specific deadline for the next review of AVA, GNS, SCR or TOWNS. Although the project team can respond publicly, Binance retains ultimate control of its exchange listing decisions. In terms of market data, no uniform price response was observed among all 18 affected assets at the time of the announcement. Therefore, it is not advisable to attribute price changes to Binance decisions without evidence of transactions for specific tokens.
