Brad Garlinghouse's "589" followers mystery
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse's followers list on the X platform contains exactly 589 accounts. Cryptocurrency analyst Dark Defender (@DefendDark) recently pointed out this detail, and the XRP community believes it is no coincidence. The accuracy of the numbers has attracted widespread attention.
Dark Defender pointed out that due to regulatory restrictions, Gary Linghouse, as CEO, was unable to publicly state XRP's price target. Therefore, the view is that paying attention to 589 accounts is his means of expressing this information in a non-verbal way. "589 has never been a number," Dark Defender wrote,"It's a password. It's a sentence that everyone in the room is forbidden to say."
Brad couldn't say the price. He is the CEO.
So he happened to follow 589 accounts.
The XRPL Foundation cannot say the price either.
So they hid 5, 8 and 9 in the picture.
589 is never a number. It's a password.
It is a sentence that everyone in the room is forbidden to say.

The number of followers is not accidental
When Gary Linghouse temporarily left the X platform earlier this year, his attention count dropped to 588. When he returned, the number returned to 589. The community interprets this as a deliberate behavior of maintenance. Gary Linghouse has 1.3 million followers, which Dark Defender calls an extra highlight that makes his attention accurate to 589 followers even more eye-catching.
The price target of US$589 has been circulated in XRP circles for years, and this theory is closely linked to the view that XRP must reach that price to promote cross-border settlement flows across institutions on a large scale.
Photo clues from the XRPL Foundation
This model is not limited to Gary Linhaus. The XRP Ledger Foundation released an image on May 25 with dots arranged in groups corresponding to 5, 8 and 9. The caption read: "Tomorrow will be a beautiful day." Dark Defender linked this to the $589 theory, implying that the foundation faces the same constraints as Gary Linhouse.
Community Response
Several community members expressed their views. Some people point out that 5×8×9 equals 360, call it a circle, and believe that this mathematical relationship strengthens the meaning of these numbers. Another member referred to another reference, pointing out that $589 was the price for Ethereum when the SEC filed a lawsuit against Ripple. Some members said there were "hidden private ledger prices that you can't see," implying that the $589 figure represents content embedded in the institutional infrastructure rather than the public market. Other members believed that this figure might stem from specific legislation in Japan or the United States, especially the provisions on reverse repo transactions laws.
Discussion of the lingering figure
$589 keeps returning as new evidence emerges. This number is now deeply embedded in the history of XRP, and Gary Linhouse's attention has further strengthened the community's beliefs. Whether deliberately or coincidentally, the XRP community continues to view $589 as a number of special significance.
