Spark launches online USDT savings service on OKX App through X Layer

Key Facts

Spark has introduced its Spark Savings USDT product to the OKX app to reach trading users who do not connect to wallets or bridge assets themselves.

After collection on the exchange, deposits enter Spark Savings through X Layer (OKX's EVM Layer 2 network). Spark is launching the product in selected markets outside the EU, subject to local regulatory requirements.

Product Integration Mechanism

As a digital financial protocol that allocates capital to on-chain markets, Spark announced on Friday that its Spark Savings USDT product has been expanded to OKX applications, providing a new access channel for stablecoin balances already placed on exchanges.

According to both companies, users can use Tether (USDT) to subscribe through OKX On-chain Earn, without the need to connect separately to wallets, bridge assets, or interact directly with DeFi applications. OKX collects these deposits and connects them to Spark Savings located on the X Layer.

Funding deployment strategy

Spark allocates capital to multiple approval venues, including lending markets, liquidity provision, real-world assets and other credit strategies, within the constraints set out in its governance framework. The protocol describes these allocations as programmatic operations.

The company said that for every dollar deposited, Spark borrows the same amount of USDS through Sky Allocation System Primitive, thereby providing 1:1 USDS support within the Spark Liquidity Layer. Spark pointed out that its safety framework combines a liquidity buffer, restricted capital flows, and a hierarchical structure designed to gradually absorb risk before losses hit Spark Savings depositors. In addition, treasury balances and allocation activities are visible on the chain.

As of writing, Spark Savings has a total lock-in value (TVL) of approximately US$1.26 billion, according to DeFiLlama, which also includes the broader Spark operating system including the SparkLend lending market.

Availability Range

Spark Savings USDT will first be available to eligible OKX users in selected markets outside the EU, subject to applicable local requirements.

Sam MacPherson, co-founder and CEO of Spark, said the integration "does not bring the complexity of DeFi into the centralized exchange (CEX) experience; it puts the advantages of DeFi behind the familiar CEX experience."

Spark said the release is part of its broader cooperation with the exchange and that more integration plans are under consideration in the future.

Previously, Aave also expanded to the X Layer earlier this year, a network built by OKX's Polygon-based CDK and settled into Ethereum.
