Apple releases security update for iOS 26.7.1 to fix high-risk vulnerabilities

On September 28, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) released security updates for iOS 26.7.1 and iPadOS 26.7.1. This update fixes the CVE-2026-86950 vulnerability by improving the boundary checking mechanism.

CVE-2026-86950 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability that affects Apple's image rendering framework CoreGraphics. The vulnerability could lead to arbitrary code execution when a device handles maliciously constructed files. Out-of-bounds writes are situations where software writes data outside the allocated memory area, creating the conditions for an attacker to destroy memory or run its custom code.

Apple said: "We have noted reports that in versions prior to iOS 27, this issue may be exploited in highly sophisticated attacks against specific individuals."

Affected Device List

This security update applies to the following devices:

  • iPhone 11 and later models
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch third generation and later models
  • iPad Pro 11-inch first generation and later models
  • iPad Air third generation and later models
  • iPad eighth-generation and later models
  • iPad mini fifth-generation and later models

Blockchain security company issues warning

Blockchain security company SlowMist pointed out that Apple's latest security updates are particularly important to cryptocurrency users because the company observes iOS usage of sensitive wallet data. However, SlowMist did not attribute any cryptographic hacking incidents to CVE-2026-86950.
