Participants reported that they were misled by widely circulated marketing materials and told funds would double in less than two months and without risk.
Police actions and evidence seizure
Police searched five office premises and nine private homes. During the operation, the authorities seized a total of 295,090 euros in cash, 32 mobile phones, 28 computers, 15 tablet computers, 38 USB flash drives, 16 hard drives, various bank cards and a money counter. Currently, all items are under investigation to track the flow of funds and rebuild communication networks within criminal gangs.
So far, authorities have confirmed 18 victims with a total loss of more than 55,970 euros. However, police estimate that the platform attracted more than 10,000 users, and the total loss may exceed $8 million. Investigators are still trying to determine the final total number of victims.
Investigators continue to analyze seized electronic devices to track transaction records and expose the communication networks behind the cryptocurrency scam.
Background: Cryptocurrency crimes and regulatory responses
This is not the first time that Greek authorities have intervened in criminal activities related to cryptocurrencies. In July 2025, Greek law enforcement agencies carried out the first cryptocurrency asset seizure operation involving international cybercrime. The operation was coordinated by the Anti-Money Laundering Bureau and involved assets related to the $1.5 billion Bybit hack. Blockchain analytics company Chainalysis said Greek authorities used Reactor software to track stolen funds, resulting in funds being urgently frozen and subsequently handed over to prosecutors for processing.
International Perspective: Cryptocurrency Fraud and Law Enforcement Cooperation
Fake cryptocurrency investment platforms have attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies around the world. Operation Jackal IV, launched by INTERPOL from November 2025 to June 2026, targeted cryptocurrency fraud, emotional fraud and commercial mail compromise (BEC) schemes in 22 countries. During the operation, South African police arrested 39 suspects, confiscated $2.67 million, and froze 257 bank accounts. In Romania, authorities raided a call center linked to an investment fraud that defrauded approximately 143 million euros worldwide.
In addition, Interpol's global operation "First Light" resulted in 5,811 arrests in 97 countries and regions, highlighting the growing scale and transnational nature of such crimes.
The FBI has issued a warning that some fraudulent trading platforms lure victims by allowing small withdrawals, then block large attempts and demand additional fees or taxes. U.S. authorities advise cryptocurrency investors to stop transferring money immediately when they suspect fraud and to be wary of any service that claims to recover lost assets but requires advance payment.
