Zakura launches the Common library, which increases the speed of Zcash's mobile certificate generation by 14 times, and increases ZEC by 5%
Mobile and desktop performance has been significantly improved
Well-known Zcash developer Zakura has launched Common-a set of cryptography and protocol libraries designed to bring significant performance improvements to Zcash wallets and full nodes. The new library is expected to significantly accelerate proof generation, hash calculation, and verification operations, with mobile devices being the most significant.
Common achieved a 14-fold increase in proof generation speed on mobile platforms, while desktop devices achieved a more than 5-fold performance increase. Sinsemilla's hash calculation speed is more than 21 times faster than previous solutions, and the trial decryption performance is also improved by 1.5 times. The verification performance of zk-SNARKs has also been enhanced, achieving a 4 to 8-fold improvement in benchmark testing.
This update is mainly aimed at Zcash wallet and node operators, bringing efficiency optimizations to end users and network infrastructure. Zakura emphasized that newer versions of compatible wallets such as Vizor Wallet, as well as full nodes that integrate these libraries, will benefit from the new code immediately after release.
Helius CEO Mert called this development an impressive engineering achievement, noting in particular that a significant reduction in mobile proof generation latency was achieved within a single release cycle.
Reduction of transaction delays and actual impact
Prior to the update, Zakura engineers said that wallet creation transactions sometimes took more than 3 seconds. The new Common framework can shorten waiting times for many users to less than 200 milliseconds, significantly improving the trading experience. These improvements are entirely due to optimization of library performance and do not involve any changes in Zcash consensus rules or monetary policy.
Zakura co-founder Sean Bowe pointed out that the Common update brings measurable benefits to blocking wallets and full nodes, allowing applications to achieve greater responsiveness and reliability without having to modify any network rules.
Adoption of performance improvements depends on whether wallet providers and node operators integrate Common into their respective software packages. Existing wallets and nodes are not automatically updated and require manual integration to enable accelerated processes. The library remains fully open source and is easy for widespread use by the developer community.
Technical Significance and Industry Trends
Common improves transaction propagation speed and is expected to reduce isolated blocks, thereby improving the overall efficiency of Zcash infrastructure. These upgrades are considered technical enhancements and have no direct impact on Zcash's network rules, blocked transactions or protocol consensus mechanisms.
This release comes at a time when blockchain technology is gaining widespread adoption in financial markets beyond cryptocurrencies. While traditional markets operate through intermediaries and brokers, one platform now allows investors to hold tokenized U.S. stocks, gold and silver directly in crypto wallets. This evolution, which leverages real-world asset tokenization and automated price discovery, eliminates middlemen and provides rapid market access.
After Zakura announced the release of Common, Zcash native token ZEC rose 5%. According to market data, its trading price is approximately US$833.
Zakura clarified that the Common upgrade is purely a library level improvement. It does not represent a network upgrade, nor does it modify protected transaction rules or monetary policy.
These enhancements affect back-end processes such as proof generation, hashing, decryption, and verification, providing wallet users and node operators with a way to choose to adopt new libraries for higher performance.
