Institutional demand growth accompanied by weak employment data
Institutional interest has been an important pillar of bullish sentiment. BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, purchased $195.6 million worth of bitcoins in a single day through its IBIT Spot Bitcoin ETF. ETF clients of Fidelity, another major asset manager, also increased their holdings by $29.28 million during the same period.
These huge capital inflows occurred against the backdrop of light price trading. Although trading remains confined to ranges, investors view these purchases as potential catalysts for gains.
Broader macroeconomic indicators also affect the Bitcoin market. This week, U.S. inflation and labor data reshaped expectations for Fed policy. At one point in the week, Bitcoin fell to about $82,600, but prices rebounded quickly after inflation data was released below forecasts and JOLTS (Job Vacancies and Labor Mobility Survey) data showed weakening labor demand.
The latest U.S. jobs report brought significant surprises. Non-agricultural employment increased by only 29,000 in September, far below the expected 90,000. The national unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.2%, and wage growth slowed. The data eased immediate pressure on the Fed to raise interest rates further.
