US$2,550 resistance remains stubborn
Institutions continue to increase their holdings
Ethereum rose 32.5% in August, setting its strongest monthly performance since July 2025. The U.S. spot Ethereum ETF had a net inflow of $1.85 billion in August. Large holders increased their holdings by 430,000 ETH, while small investors reduced their holdings. Price movements show that Ethereum is struggling to break through the $2,550 resistance level and is currently hovering around $2,463. BitMine increased its holdings of 53,501 ETH units last week, bringing its total reserves to approximately 5.9 million units.
As of September 2, Ethereum was trading at approximately US$2,463, up 1.79% in the past 24 hours. Previously, Ethereum achieved a monthly gain of 32.5% in August-its strongest performance since July 2025.
This increase was mainly driven by the U.S. spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund. SoSoValue data showed that these investment vehicles had a net inflow of US$1.85 billion in August, the strongest monthly performance in 12 months. These funds ended in late August with 11 consecutive days of net inflows, with net outflows only for four trading days throughout the period.
Large wallet addresses holding 10,000 to 100,000 ETH purchased a total of 430,000 ETH units in August, most of which increased holdings occurred in the second half of the month. At the same time, small retail addresses sold large quantities of ETH positions, indicating a significant shift of funds from individual investors to institutional investors.
Pledge participation also increased significantly. Ethereum Pledged Smart Contracts received 1.4 million ETH in August, the largest monthly increase since February 2024. The increase in ETH deposit and pledge mechanism has effectively reduced market circulation supply.
Market analyst BATMAN highlighted this trend change on the X platform, pointing out that ETH "does not seem to be receiving the attention it deserves." He stressed that recent price movements mark a reversal of trend into bullish territory after nearly twelve months of downward pressure. He observed that the 50-day moving average, which had previously served as resistance, had now shifted to support. He advised the community: "Don't ignore ETH."
ETH doesn't seem to get the attention it deserves. The recent rise marks a reversal of the trend and a return to bullish sentiment, which has been bearish for nearly a year. Ethereum has been suppressed many times by the 50-day moving average. The situation has now reversed and the moving average has turned into support. Don't ignore...
$2,550 resistance remains stubborn
Despite a strong August performance, ETH encountered difficulties breaking through the $2,550 mark. Many attempts to break through failed to stabilize above this price. Chain expert Ted Pillows observed that leveraged long positions at current price levels are rapidly accumulating, and once ETH is blocked again, it will face potential liquidation risks. Open interest has risen to approximately 4.973 million, while funding rates are also high.
ETH tried to break the US$2,550 level but failed again. At present, I think most of the short-term trends of ETH have been completed. Expect more shocks and small surrenders before the reversal.
If bulls fail to hold on to current levels, the $2,250 - 2,300 range will be the next support area to watch out for. A successful breakthrough of $2,550 may push a rebound into the $2,650 - 2,700 region.
Institutions continue to increase their holdings
Despite short-term consolidation, institutions 'appetite for ETH remains strong. BitMine purchased another 53,501 ETH units in the past week, bringing its total position to approximately 5.9 million ETH units.
Market commentator DonAlt pointed out that the macro resistance between the current price level and the US$4,000 - 4,100 range is relatively sparse. If ETH can maintain its upward momentum, this region will become an important long-term target.
ETH is currently trading at $2,463, with the $2,550 level being the most significant short-term resistance barrier on the chart.
