Key Highlights
Comparison of the performance of Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple ETFs: The cumulative net inflow of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF in three weeks reached US$3.8 billion, of which last week's inflow was US$986.9 million. BlackRock's IBIT products captured $117.4 million in new funds on Friday, accounting for about 67% of the day's total inflows.
Technical Analysis: The golden cross pattern is forming Bitcoin traded at US$79,716 during the reporting period, up approximately 2.6% from the previous week. Bitcoin's 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) is expected to approach its 200-day EMA around September 11, forming a "golden cross" pattern. An analyst at Coin Bureau pointed out that the upcoming golden cross has historically been seen as a positive sign, but also warned that it is a lagging indicator.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF performs strongly
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ushered in their strongest three-week performance period in 2026, with cumulative net capital inflows reaching US$3.8 billion. The final phase of this surge, which ended on Friday, September 5, contributed $986.9 million to the total.
As of Friday's close, the total joint holdings of all U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF products reached US$101.3 billion, after briefly hitting a peak of US$103.3 billion the day before. Cumulative net capital flows since its inception now total US$55.6 billion.
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) dominated market activity on Friday, receiving $117.4 million in new funding. Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) was the only product to additionally record positive traffic, capturing $57.2 million.
Total contributions from all products on Friday were US$174.6 million, down sharply from Thursday's record of US$731 million. Bitcoin briefly fell below the $79,000 mark on Friday, but rebounded to $79,716 at launch. Despite this, the cryptocurrency has increased by approximately 2.6% in the past seven days.
Comparison of the performance of ETFs on different assets
Capital inflows of Bitcoin ETF products increased by approximately 7% month-on-month. At the same time, inflows into the U.S. spot Ethereum ETF shrank sharply by 74% to $218.4 million; Ripple (XRP) ETF products saw an 83% contraction to $19 million.
Despite recent market volatility, exchange-traded products of Ethereum and Ripple have maintained positive annual performances. The cumulative net contribution of the Ethereum ETF year-to-date is approximately US$863 million, while the Ripple ETF product has received approximately US$515 million in funding. It is worth noting that despite the recent positive momentum, net flow of Bitcoin ETF products this calendar year still shows approximately minus US$1 billion.
Technical Analysis: Formation of the Golden Cross Form
At the same time, an important technological form is emerging in the Bitcoin price structure. Data on September 1 showed that Bitcoin's 50-day exponential moving average was at US$70,030, while the 200-day equivalent was US$72,323, a gap of approximately 3.2%.
Technical analysts predict that if price levels remain stable around current valuations, a convergence event known as a "golden cross" could occur around September 11. Coin Bureau shared on Platform X (formerly Twitter) that Bitcoin is "about to send a golden cross signal for the first time since November 2025." The analysis emphasized that the three previously completed golden cross patterns predicted Bitcoin's 50%, 45% and 60% increases respectively. However, analysts warned that this is still a lagging signal that "sometimes reverses within weeks."
A historical analysis of 12 gold crosses since 2012 shows that Bitcoin's average increase was 24.9% in the three months after each signal appeared, but individual results showed considerable differences.
CryptoQuant's analysis shows that the price increase at the end of August was mainly due to the liquidation of short positions in the derivatives market rather than true spot market accumulation. On September 3, Bitcoin was trading at close to $77,000, already above two key moving averages.
