Wyoming explains why $FRNT stablecoins migrated from LayerZero to Chainlink

Security review drives state support for token migration

Wyoming Stable Token Commission has made public its decision to migrate state-issued Frontier Stable Token (code: $FRNT) from @LayerZero_Core to Chainlink Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The migration was completed in August 2026, making Wyoming the first U.S. government agency to publicly replace its blockchain infrastructure for security reasons.

The committee said the switch was based on a proactive security review of its cross-link stack. The review found consistent concerns about LayerZero's disclosure practices and operational security, including access control and private key management risks. Executive Director Anthony Apollo pointed out that CCIP is the only solution that meets the commission's requirements for state-owned digital assets.

Apollo said: "The committee proactively conducted a security review and identified concerns about LayerZero's disclosure practices and operational security." He added: "After the review, the committee decided to adopt Chainlink CCIP because it is the only cross-chain infrastructure that meets our strict safety and reliability requirements in all respects."

Under a multi-year contract,@Chainlink CCIP now serves as FRNT's exclusive cross-chain infrastructure. The token went online in January 2026 and is still running on eight public blockchains: Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, Hedera, Optimism, Polygon and Solana. Existing currency holders do not need to take any action during the migration.

The industry as a whole is moving away from LayerZero

Wyoming's move is part of a broader industry trend. Nearly $15 billion in on-chain value has been migrated from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP, a wave that includes companies such as BitGo and Kraken. The trend of evacuations accelerated after a $292 million hijacking of a bridging protocol backed by LayerZero earlier this year.

$FRNT is the first fully reserve, fiat backed stablecoin issued by a U.S. public entity. Each token can be redeemed for $1 held by the Wyoming Trust, with reserve income used to support the state's school funding program. Since then, the committee has further expanded its cooperation with Chainlink, adopting the Chainlink Proof of Reserve to provide near-real-time on-chain verification to confirm FRNT's supporting assets.

LayerZero publicly responded to this, saying that it respected the committee's decision and that FRNT holders were not affected. The company also stated that it had strengthened security measures.
