In another previous post, SMQKE described the "oil crisis" narrative as a distraction that obscured what he saw as a major opportunity in the crypto space. SMQKE pointed out that some retail investors are trying to look for geopolitical events in order to directly or indirectly increase the value of assets such as XRP.
The researcher also stated that investors have constructed various narratives around oil and Japan, while regulatory developments continue to affect the crypto market. SMQKE specifically highlighted the link between regulatory clarity and XRP and its potential position in the industry.
Grayscale challenges oil price narrative
SMQKE cited a Grayscale report to support its position, which examined the impact of the Iran conflict on global markets. Grayscale pointed out that the conflict triggered a significant oil price shock, with spot oil prices rising about $40 a barrel, or 55%. The report also noted that far-month crude oil futures prices also rose as traders expected supply disruptions to continue.
The report said that the possibility of rising inflation has also changed the central bank's expectations. The one-year swap rate in the United States rose by 40 basis points, the eurozone by 60 basis points, and the UK by 100 basis points.
Despite the above, the Grayscale report showed that crypto assets still recorded small gains. The report attributed this performance to oversold conditions, positive fundamental developments and the independent structure of the blockchain network.
