Ethereum: Outlook and Historical Review for October 2026
At the beginning of October 2026, the Ethereum market lacked a clear direction. As of Sunday morning, October 4th, its price was approximately US$2,690 (source: CoinGecko), almost the same as at the beginning of the month. The key question for Ethereum's price forecast is whether it can perform as well this month as its reputation suggests. We evaluated monthly K-line data from the Binance Exchange since 2018 and found that Ethereum's performance was more mixed than Bitcoin.
Ethereum's October record since 2018
Five of the eight October months closed with gains. Among them, the most outstanding performance is in 2021, with an increase of 42.9%, followed by 18.4% in 2022, 8.6% in 2023, 7.4% in 2020 and 0.7% in 2019. Decline years include 2018 (down 14.7%), 2024 (down 3.2%) and 2025 (down 7.2%)(data is based on the Binance USDT trading pair, with a monthly candle chart from October 1 to 31).
This ranking is particularly eye-catching: the last two October months have closed down. In contrast, Bitcoin has closed up in six October months since 2018, as our October review of Bitcoin shows. The market reputation for the month was mainly due to Bitcoin's performance.
Ethereum's news in October 2026
On October 6, the Sepolia testnet will be upgraded to the next network version. When God Online targeted Ethereum, nothing changed. According to the Ethereum Foundation, no specific date has been set for the mainnetwork upgrade, as we explained in our article on the Sepolia fork. Smooth test operation is still a prerequisite for advancing the main network date.
The flow of funds does not support the positive trend: the U.S. Ethereum spot ETF experienced capital outflows for three consecutive trading days at the end of September and on October 1, while Bitcoin funds regained capital inflows. Specific data can be found in our ETF outflow analysis.
In addition, Ethereum prices are still about 46% below the all-time high set in August 2025.
Ethereum Price Forecast: Key Prices for October
Ethereum's current price is above its 50-day moving averages (approximately US$2,465) and 200-day moving averages (approximately US$2,315), which are based on CoinMarketCap's daily closing price. Currently, its price is still about 46% away from the all-time high of US$4,946 set on August 24, 2025 (Data source: CoinGecko).
Since September 21, daily closing prices have fluctuated between US$2,669 and US$2,775. Therefore, the upper resistance level is the first hurdle on the upward path, while the lower support level is at $2,645, the September 20 close. The October opening price in Binance was US$2,686, in the middle of the range.
Suggestions for Ethereum investors next step
