GRAM price rises 9% to $1.56, Telegram expands access to Money unmanaged wallet

As Telegram expands access to its "Money" feature-an unmanaged wallet used for token transfers and collectibles purchases-the price of GRAM rose 9% to $1.56. According to Walt's announcement, when a user receives a transfer, the "Money" module will appear inside Telegram.

Users can use this feature to store RAM, send funds, and purchase gifts or a favorite username through "Money". At the same time, Walt provides an independent recharge service and supports an independent platform covering more than 300 digital assets. The market rebound pushed the market value of GRAM to $4.12 billion, with trading volume reaching $132.4 million.

Telegram opens wallet function to a billion user base

Walt announced that Telegram is expanding the "Money" wallet from its previous status limited to some users to more accounts on messaging platforms with more than a billion users. In the company description, when a user receives an incoming transfer, the "Money" part of Telegram appears. Once this section is available, recipients can add GRAMs from their Walt account with just a few clicks, and these transfers are described as being completed instantly and without paying network fees.

The announcement pointed out that "Money" allows users to hold and send native tokens of the TON blockchain while simultaneously purchasing Telegram gifts and collectible user names. Walt positioned the feature as Telegram's own unmanaged wallet, while identifying its stand-alone application as a service for trading and investment.

Market reports provided by

showed that after a 9% increase, the price of GRAM was US$1.56, and the market value increased by 9% to US$4.12 billion. Data showed that during previous gains, 24-hour trading volume rose 41% to $132.4 million.

From concept to implementation: Durov's wallet vision and phased release

Telegram founder Pavel Durov first outlined plans for native wallets in July, proposing to implement fee-free instant transfers within the messaging application. Previous reports pointed out that his fee-free wallet proposal aims to build self-hosting directly into Telegram, rather than requiring users to download other wallet apps.

Under the architecture described by Durov, holders will directly control their cryptocurrency, rather than handing custody to Telegram or other providers. He said in a July announcement that the product is designed to serve the platform's more than one billion monthly users.

Durov has said that as of August 31, selected accounts have begun to gain access and availability will gradually expand. Reports on the launch of the initial Gram wallet document his plans, including payments, transfers and Telegram Collectibles, which include digital gifts, user names and phone numbers.

Durov also reportedly mentioned that after web validators approved smart contracts supported by wallets before release, the design allowed developers to upgrade wallets without requiring the holder to migrate assets to the new contract.

Walt rebrands: From payment tools to integrated encryption platforms

In its latest announcement, Walt named the Telegram wallet "Money" and received transfers as a step to opening this part. The company said funds from Walt could then be used through a built-in recharge process.

In a September 28 announcement, Walt said that the original "Telegram Wallet" service adopted a new name after surpassing its original role in purchasing Toncoin and Bitcoin. Related reports pointed out that The Open Platform is the developer of Walt and distinguishes it from Telegram's native wallet.

According to the announcement, Walt supports holding, depositing and withdrawing more than 300 assets on four blockchains. The company also lists more than 200 cryptocurrencies available for trading, as well as more than 100 tokenized stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and precious metals.

For derivatives users, Walt listed perpetual contracts covering more than 70 assets in a September announcement, including contracts linked to oil, natural gas and metals. Its Earn products include services for U.S. dollar stablecoins, GRAMs, Tether Gold, Solana, Ethereum and Tron.

Andrew Rogozov, founder and CEO of Walt, said the product has evolved from a basic buying tool to an encryption platform within Telegram. The company also outlined plans for crypto cards and conversational trading tools, and scheduled the release of these products to be carried out separately.

In the support guide updated on October 8, Walt stated that existing accounts, balances and wallet addresses will remain unchanged after the renaming. The guide also confirms that the service no longer appears in Telegram settings, but can be opened through Telegram search.

The name change of GRAM does not affect the underlying structure of the TON network

According to Walt's token guidelines, Toncoin was renamed to Gram on June 15, changing the name, code and logo of the asset, but leaving the TON name of the blockchain itself unchanged.

The company stated that existing balances, wallet addresses and GRAM Earn positions are automatically renewed. Its guidelines state that holders do not need to exchange tokens, transfer funds to other addresses, or approve migration operations.

For assets offered through Walt, the same guide distinguishes between tokens that meet external deposit and withdrawal conditions and transactional assets that users can only purchase, hold and exchange within the service. Walt also noted that assets provided through payment providers may vary by region.

U.S. holders face separate spending and transfer rules

For U.S. token holders, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) explains that cryptocurrencies are considered property for federal income tax purposes.

According to the agency's guidance, exchanging cryptocurrencies as capital assets for goods, services, or other cryptocurrencies may result in capital gains or losses. The IRS calculates this result using the value received and the holder's adjusted cost basis.

For transfers between wallets or accounts belonging to the same owner, the IRS states that moving cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event. The agency also pointed out that even if the platform does not issue information declarations, it must report taxable cryptocurrency transactions.
