Standard Chartered Bank has announced crypto trading services for eligible customers in the UAE. Source: X. Standard Chartered’s crypto trading services are currently available only to customers classified as “professional investors”. The announcement does not specify the minimum investment amount, fees, or transaction limits. It is also unclear whether the bank will offer additional digital assets in the future. Standard Chartered plans to expand this wealth management service to more markets, but no specific countries or launch dates have been announced yet. Bitcoin and Ethereum are the only two assets available in the initial offering. This strategy focuses on serving wealthy customers rather than retail users, allowing eligible customers to access cryptocurrencies through their existing wealth management relationships.

In September 2026, Standard Chartered Bank launched institutional spot trading of Bitcoin and Ethereum through its branch in the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). Eligible customers can execute transactions via existing electronic trading platforms and foreign exchange interfaces. They have the option to choose their own settlement providers, including Standard Chartered Bank’s own digital asset custody services. This makes Standard Chartered Bank’s cryptocurrency trading rates unique: wealth clients benefit from the bank’s closed-loop model, while institutional clients can opt for different custody options. The launch of the institutional version in the UAE follows Standard Chartered Bank’s introduction of spot cryptocurrency trading in the UK in July 2025. In September 2024, Standard Chartered Bank obtained regulatory approval from the DIFC to enter the field of digital asset custody in the UAE. Brevan Howard Digital is the platform’s first named client. This service initially supports Bitcoin and Ethereum. The bank is further expanding its digital asset services. On October 12th, it introduced the RLUSD custody service for eligible institutional clients through its DIFC branch. On October 8th, the bank outlined its plans for Singapore-based custody services, covering selected cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets. Standard Chartered Bank has not announced the exact launch date for Singapore, nor has it specified which assets are eligible for this service. Rola Abu Manneh, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in the UAE, Middle East, and Pakistan, stated that the UAE is an ideal market for launching such services. She cited the country’s regulatory environment and its growing role in the digital asset sector. The UAE is also one of Standard Chartered Bank’s four major wealth management centers worldwide.
