Elon Musk launched Groikipedia – an encyclopedia where artificial intelligence has final say in what

Elon Musk once again shakes up the tech industry, this time targeting the field of knowledge. His open-source artificial intelligence-based online encyclopedia, Grokipedia, has been launched. This project is seen as a direct challenge to Wikipedia. Unlike traditional encyclopedias, which are manually edited, Grokipedia uses AI to generate, verify, and update content in real time, claiming to “eliminate delays in information delivery.” In an era where AI and encryption technologies are increasingly integrated, this project symbolizes not only Musk’s redefinition of control over information but also represents a revolutionary experiment in the knowledge ecosystem of the Web3 era.

While there are ongoing debates with existing platforms regarding its editorial practices, Elon Musk finally unveiled Grokipedia on Monday. This AI-driven encyclopedia focuses on presenting “truth” as its core objective.

After its launch, Musk posted several messages on X, stating that Grokipedia is “fully open-source, allowing anyone to use it freely for any purpose.” He also emphasized that its goal is to present “only the truth.”

Musk added, “We will never be perfect, but we will continue to strive towards that goal.”

A user on X has already noticed discrepancies in the articles about George Floyd, an African-American man who was killed by a police officer in Florida.

The user noticed that the first paragraph of the Grokipedia article emphasized Freud’s long history of criminal behavior, while the Wikipedia article mentioned that he was killed by a “white” police officer.

The service was delayed for several days, as Musk suspended its release in order to “remove all propaganda from Grokipedia”.

It was reported that the service temporarily crashed after launching, but quickly resumed functioning online.

At the time of writing, the website is still fully functional, with over 885,000 articles available so far.

Although there is little information about the specific processes behind Grokipedia, at first glance, its AI integration suggests a fundamentally different organizational structure compared to Wikipedia.

In the case of Grokipedia, it seems that X’s Grok AI plays a key role in generating and reviewing content on the platform. In contrast, Wikipedia relies on a combination of volunteer editors and automated tools.

Musk explained on X that users will be able to add or request changes to content on Grokipedia, with the final decision made by the AI.

Musk wrote on X, “Grok uses a large amount of computational resources to generate approximately 1 million articles. You can ask Grok to add, modify, or delete articles. It will perform the action, or tell you why it won’t do so.” Musk has often criticized Wikipedia, claiming that it is politically and culturally biased towards the left.
