MARA Holdings purchased 1,292 bitcoins through FalconX
On September 16, MARA Holdings purchased 1,292 bitcoins worth approximately US$98.64 million through crypto exchange FalconX. The deal, disclosed by online analytics firm Lookonchain, marks one of the company's largest Bitcoin purchases in nearly a year.
After this increase, the total number of bitcoins held by MARA Holdings reached 35,577, with a total value of nearly US$2.7 billion at current prices.
AI industry leaders call for prudent regulation of cutting-edge model development
It is worth noting that this Bitcoin purchase coincides with AI industry leaders calling for a slower, more supervised pace for the development of cutting-edge artificial intelligence models. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an article titled "We must control the pace of cutting-edge development", expressing concerns that AI models may be used to build next-generation AI systems. This view has exacerbated growing anxiety in the technology industry.
Sam Altman of OpenAI and Elon Musk of xAI both expressed their views on the potential risks posed by AI, emphasizing the need to strengthen security measures in the future. In addition, Bilal Chughtai, an AGI security researcher at Google DeepMind, resigned this week, warning that AI "has the potential to cause human destruction." These remarks from leaders in the AI field were interpreted by the market as warning signs about the AI spending boom, and stocks in the AI sector subsequently sold off sharply.
