Anthropic postponed its IPO schedule to mid-October and plans to go public before the U.S. midterm elections.

According to sources, Anthropic is advancing its initial public offering schedule to mid-October. The artificial intelligence company will begin promoting its IPO plans to investors as early as mid-October. Reuters previously reported that Anthropic also plans to officially list a few days before the mid-term elections in the United States in November.

This adjusted timetable is different from the original plan. Earlier, two sources said Anthropic is expected to submit its IPO prospectus as soon as next week. However, the company is currently expected to publicly file its prospectus in late September. Sources pointed out that Anthropic may still further adjust the timetable. When responding to various market factors, it is common for companies to frequently revise their IPO schedules.

The timing of prospectus release will determine the size of the issue

This postponement means that one of the most anticipated technology IPOs of the year will be postponed. Anthropic's rumored valuation is close to $2 trillion. If it comes true, this will be one of the largest IPOs in history and will also provide another opportunity for public market investors to participate in the artificial intelligence field.

Currently, Anthropic is determining the financing structure of the offering. The company needs to complete a $15 billion revolving credit line arrangement. After that, research analysts at participating banks may hold meetings with Anthropic. Bloomberg News has previously reported on this. Typically, there is a gap of several weeks between analyst meetings and prospectus submissions. However, a source pointed out that Anthropic may move more quickly because analysts already know the company.

The AI IPO boom attracts investors 'attention

Anthropic's expected IPO comes at a time when IPO competition across the AI industry is attracting high attention from investors. OpenAI may also consider going public on its own and joining other well-known companies in the industry. At the same time, SpaceX went public through an IPO in June, setting a new record with a valuation of US$1.77 trillion.

Several banks are assisting Anthropic in its IPO preparations. People familiar with the matter said the banks involved in the assistance included Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup. Anthropic did not comment on the timeline, and banks declined to comment. Investors will have to wait until the end of September, when the company will release its prospectus.
