MVB Financial participates in Visa Direct pilot to explore the application of stablecoins in payment and settlement
On September 9, MVB Financial Corp., a banking partner of fintech companies and innovation-driven corporate companies, announced that it will participate in a Visa Direct pilot project to support the issuance and settlement of stablecoin-enabled funds through the "push-to-card" method. According to statements released by the two companies, the bank is working with Velocity, a stableco-driven corporate payments and treasury management platform that aims to introduce stablecoin liquidity into its banking and payment operations.
This move marks another attempt by regulated banks in the United States to use stablecoins as a settlement channel in their daily payment processes.
Stable coin application based on existing banking infrastructure
This arrangement allows MVB to use stable coins to settle its Visa Direct payments, providing more flexible options for the positioning and transfer of funds. Functions such as digital asset conversion, wallet connectivity, and on-chain control are handled by licensed partners and provided through a single API interface and regulated wallet infrastructure. The two companies are positioning the pilot as part of a broader shift: that stablecoins should be embedded in the underlying layers of existing banking and payment systems rather than exist as a stand-alone digital asset product. For MVB customers, the appeal lies in their ability to retain existing banking relationships and operating processes.
Executives view it as an infrastructure upgrade, not a new product
Larry F., CEO of MVB Financial Mazza said: "The banking industry is restructuring in real time, and stablecoins are at the core of this transformation. By using stablecoins to address inefficiencies in capital flows during the payment process, we provide customers with a faster and more flexible way to move money."
Eric Ceathem, founder and CEO of Velocity, pointed out that the partnership reflects the most valuable scenarios for stablecoins. "This is where we believe stablecoins will be of greatest importance: when they are integrated into the financial infrastructure that companies already rely on." Both executives emphasized that the pilot aims to improve capital flow efficiency while eliminating the need for customers to adopt additional digital asset workflows.
Visa's broader deployment in the stablecoin space
This pilot follows a series of stablecoin initiatives from major card organizations, including Visa's efforts to promote linking on-chain lending with stablecoin card financing. Velocity said the strategy is consistent with emerging trends to allow host banks to settle original credit transactions and card issuer obligations in stablecoins. However, the two companies also warned that specific usability depends on qualification conditions and geographical area restrictions, and is still in the pilot stage and has not yet been promoted on a large scale.
