United Arab Emirates migrates blockchain infrastructure supporting national digital identity platform UAEPASS to Avalanche

According to a joint statement issued by Avalanche founder Ava Labs and United Arab Emirates Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), the United Arab Emirates is migrating blockchain infrastructure supported by its national digital identity platform UAEPASS to the Avalanche network.

UAEPASS gets new infrastructure on Avalanche

UAEPASS is a United Arab Emirates government-backed digital identity system that allows users to access more than 15,000 public and private sector services. The system currently serves citizens, residents and visitors, covering approximately 12.5 million people. According to Avalanche data, more than 350 institutions already rely on UAEPASS for identity authentication and promote secure digital transactions.

UAEPASS features include authentication, digital document signing and access to a wide range of e-government and private business services. One of the core components of the system is the Digital Vault, a feature that allows users to securely store, manage and share verified documents with organizations that require relevant documents.

"Digital vaults" have become indispensable in United Arab Emirates. Authorities said the move to Avalanche was intended to provide the system with the infrastructure needed to cope with growing demand and maintain public trust in years to come.

Saeed Belhoul, Dgov Director of Operations at TDRA, pointed out that "digital vaults" have now become an important part of daily life in the country. He emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring system security and scalability as the number of users and documents increases.

Avalanche L1 empowers exclusive national-level systems

The upgraded UAEPASS "digital vault" will run on the Avalanche Layer 1 (L1) blockchain specifically designed to meet its needs. Unlike shared public blockchains, the dedicated Avalanche L1 provides a separate network for UAEPASS, which means its performance will not be disrupted by unrelated blockchain activity.

The Private Cloud is directly managed by TDRA, and regulators control network membership, permissions and configuration, giving it greater oversight capabilities and flexibility as the system evolves.

Micro Dictionary: Avalanche is an extensible open source platform for launching decentralized applications and enterprise-class blockchain networks. Its Layer 1 (L1) blockchain is an independent network designed to meet the needs of a specific application or organization.

National-scale digital identities require reliable and high-performance technology. Avalanche leadership said this infrastructure is critical to maintaining the security and efficiency of digital services for millions of users. John Nahas, chief commercial officer of Ava Labs, emphasized the importance of strong infrastructure for digital identity platforms, noting that given the size and sensitivity of the data involved, systems like UAEPASS must operate seamlessly.

National adoption continues to grow

United Arab Emirates is not the only country that has chosen Avalanche for government and large-scale registration systems. In the United States, the California Vehicle Authority recently relocated 42 million of its vehicle ownership records to its exclusive Avalanche L1. According to reports, the migration has shortened part of the ownership transfer process from about two weeks to a few minutes.

Ava Labs pointed out that these government deployment projects share a common goal: leveraging secure, permission-based blockchain technology to modernize public records management to improve efficiency and reliability. By using Avalanche technology, identity systems in the United Arab Emirates and vehicle ownership services in California can handle a large number of transactions and user interactions while maintaining strong security controls.

Avalanche's continued commitment to supporting government agencies marks a broader shift towards blockchain-based public infrastructure. This trend is becoming increasingly evident as authorities seek to improve service delivery and maintain high levels of trust and reliability for key state functions.
