Summer Mersinger, CEO of the Blockchain Association, announced his resignation, and legislative setbacks became the trigger.
Summer Mersinger, a former member of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will resign as CEO of the Blockchain Association (BA) at the end of this year. The departure comes amid a major setback in Congress on one of the group's core legislative priorities.
On Friday, the Blockchain Association announced that Mersinger will officially step down as CEO on October 16. At that time, Kristin Smith, the organization's former CEO, will return as interim CEO. Mersinger joined the Blockchain Association in June 2025, after leaving the CFTC three years ago, when her second term as a commissioner was supposed to last beyond.
"I came here from the CFTC because I believe the industry needs a clear framework of rules and a credible and unified voice to build support for it in Washington," Mersinger said of leaving the blockchain association.
