BTC SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce resigned and will go to college to serve as an associate professor.
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce has announced his resignation with an effective date of October 2. Pierce is widely known as the "crypto mother" in the cryptocurrency field for advocating transparent, rules-based supervision of digital assets. She announced her resignation on social media platform X on Friday.
Eight years in the SEC and known for her stance on crypto policy
In his resignation letter, Pierce thanked the president for granting her the opportunity, which was seen as a career honor, and recognized the leadership of Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda. Currently, Atkins and Yujeda are the only two remaining members of the agency, and both are Republican members.
Pierce's tenure in the SEC will last approximately eight years. She also led the SEC's Cryptography Working Group and took up the position of director of the Working Group on February 4, 2025. Pierce's official term will expire in June 2025, but according to relevant regulations, if a successor is not appointed, members can continue to serve for up to 18 months, so she has remained in office to this day.
Pierce thanked the president for giving her the opportunity to serve as a commissioner and praised her colleagues for their excellent leadership, saying her departure was under the management of Chairman Atkins and Commissioner Yujeda.
