Solana Foundation launches open source DvP tool to accelerate financial institutions 'adoption of blockchain settlement
The Solana Foundation is entering the institutional financial market directly with an open source program that aims to allow banks to settle transactions on the Solana network with the certainty expected in traditional markets. Known as "Solana DvP", the tool is an open source hosting program that provides financial institutions with a standardized "Delivery-versus-Payment"(DvP) settlement API. This mechanism is the basis for ensuring that assets are delivered simultaneously with their payments.
The project, released under a loose MIT license, aims to introduce this settlement guarantee as a reusable standard into public blockchain infrastructure, replacing the customized smart contracts that institutional transactions typically rely on. The Solana Foundation said J.P. Morgan provided advice on institutional clearing practices that influenced the design of the tool.
Catherine Gu, head of digital asset products at the Solana Foundation, said: "Atomic settlements eliminate the counterparty risk inherent in traditional finance." She added that the program provides institutions with a single open standard,"being able to achieve final settlement in seconds rather than the traditional days."
Rhodel D'souza, head of digital asset markets at JPMorgan Chase, pointed out that the shared open standards used to deal with atomic bonds are "exactly the type of infrastructure needed by institutional market participants."
In traditional markets, the bond settlement process involves multiple days of chains such as clearing houses, custodians and custodians, which may result in funds being occupied for one to two days. Solana DvP compresses it into a single atomic transaction, in which either both parties complete the delivery at the same time or none. The program supports SPL Token and Token-2022 standards, includes extended functions such as permanent entrustment, suspendable tokens, and transmission pegs that regulated issuers rely on, and has passed external security audits. The foundation said it plans to add privacy features to ensure the confidentiality of settlement information.
This release builds on Solana's growing appeal among institutions chasing tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, launched a tokenized money market fund for stablecoin reserves in August this year. Its ownership is recorded on Solana and Ethereum, and the structure is designed to meet the eligibility for reserve assets under the GENIUS Act.
Meanwhile, cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has used Solana to provide tokenized U.S. stocks to overseas customers through its xStocks product. Solana has become one of the major platforms for tokenization of stocks, while infrastructure such as DvP aims to further consolidate its leadership by providing regulated participants with a credible on-chain settlement method.
