In October, XRPL AI Hub recorded 13.49 million proxy transactions, and autonomous payments grew rapidly but the settlement amount was limited.

In October, XRPL AI Hub recorded 13.49 million proxy transactions, marking that autonomous payments are growing rapidly among the 168 merchants registered on XRP Ledger. However, despite the surge in the number of transactions, the value of the funds actually transferred through these payments has been relatively modest (moderate/limited).

AI transaction acceleration on XRP Ledger

J., chief engineer at RippleX. Ayo Akinyele pointed out that the adoption rate of automated payments on XRP Ledger has increased. According to reports, in early October, during a specific period of time, proxy transactions accounted for about a quarter of all online activity.

Looking back in July, XRPL's total AI payments were only slightly more than 1 million transactions. By early September, nearly 4 million agent transactions had been recorded, reflecting the accelerating use of automated software agents.

Proxy payments supported by the x402 protocol allow autonomous software to purchase digital services such as API access, computing resources, or AI reasoning capabilities. These systems use XRP (a native cryptocurrency) or RLUSD (a stablecoin pegged to Ripple) for payments.

The x402 protocol introduces automated payment capabilities into blockchain-based software agents for the first time, eliminating the need for manual confirmation of every transaction.

Term interpretation: x402 protocol

This is a payment protocol developed by XRPL that aims to enable automated and autonomous transactions between AI agents and decentralized services, allowing seamless machine-to-machine (M2M) payments on the blockchain.

Comparison of transaction volume versus settlement value

Despite the impressive surge in transaction volume, settlement value via XRPL AI Hub presents a different picture. At the milestone in October, the total cumulative settlement amount was only 6,982 XRP and 12,010 RLUSD.

Compared with 13.49 million transactions, these data indicate that most payments involve very small amounts, indicating that activity is mainly concentrated on microtransactions rather than major commercial transfers.

The data does not clarify whether these payments involve independent customers, or are mainly on behalf of automated, duplicate transactions between systems. Therefore, high transaction volumes alone do not demonstrate widespread commercial adoption.

The continued increase in settlement volume and paying user engagement will provide clearer evidence of widespread adoption than simply rapid transaction growth.

While proxy transactions now account for a significant share of XRP Ledger's activity, the lower settlement value suggests that the vast majority of transactions involve low-value microservices rather than substantial commercial traffic.

Developer Tools and the Role of XRP and RLUSD

Ripple, a technology company focusing on enterprise blockchain solutions, launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit in June to support developers building autonomous payment solutions. The suite provides wallet integration tools and supports settlement using XRP and RLUSD, giving developers greater flexibility in how to pay for digital services.

According to digital assets publication Coinpaper, RLUSD provides price stability for digital service transactions, while XRP natively supports value transfer and settlement of transaction fees over the network.
