Core DAO plans to implement an emergency hard fork due to excessive rewards received by verifiers

Core DAO is coordinating an emergency hard fork after a verifier claimed to have received CORE rewards beyond the blockchain plan release. In the latest update, Core stated that the incident has been brought under control and that "malicious verifiers" can no longer receive excessive rewards. Core said the fork was a forward upgrade and would not roll back the network or cancel any confirmed transactions.

Previously, Core pointed out in a status update released on Monday that the rewards accumulated by a small number of verifiers have been significantly higher than the circulation preset in the agreement. Core said that the incident was limited to the issuance of rewards and user assets were safe, and promised to release a technical post-event analysis report.

Before and after the incident, several exchanges restricted CORE's transfers. Coinbase suspended the transceiver function of the Core network, while Bithumb and Coinone suspended the charging service due to suspected or confirmed security issues. Bitget also suspended the recharge of CORE on the grounds of wallet maintenance, while LBank suspended the recharge due to the project party's request.

Core has not disclosed how many COREs were issued during this incident, how long the event lasted, and whether additional tokens were in circulation. At the same time, Core did not explain the vulnerability that led to the validator receiving rewards. However, Core said it will release a technical post-mortem analysis report.
