stablecoins and payments news

Visa has partnered with Dunamu, the parent company of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, to jointly explore stablecoin-based payments and artificial intelligence-driven business applications. The companies announced the news on August 28 and outlined plans to develop new payment, remittance and settlement services in key markets.

The core of this cooperation is the integration of Dunamu's digital asset technology with Visa's payment infrastructure. Both sides said they are studying how to combine stablecoins with artificial intelligence to reshape the way cross-border capital flows.

Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok said that artificial intelligence, stablecoins and tokenization represent a turning point in finance and business. He described the cooperation as a bridge connecting digital assets and the traditional financial system.

stablecoin projects under evaluation

One of the projects being evaluated by both parties is Open USD (OUSD), a dollar-backed stablecoin launched by Open Standard in June 2026. Open Standard said more than 140 companies have committed to participate in the project, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase and BlackRock.

Dunamu said that OUSD is one of several stablecoins it is considering for this cooperation, but has not yet selected a specific currency. This position is consistent with Upbit's clarification statement issued in July 2026, when Upbit stated that Dunamu had not participated in the issuance of OUSD after appearing on Open Standard's list of participating companies.

Artificial intelligence agents as payment tools

The two sides also plan to study the "agent-based business" model, in which artificial intelligence systems search for products, make purchase decisions and complete transactions on behalf of users. Visa and Dunamu said they will explore how to connect AI agents to stablecoin payment and settlement infrastructure.

No specific products, pilot projects or start-up timetable were announced in this cooperation disclosure.
