The team made user asset protection and the safe and stable operation of the network a top priority. Subsequent updates are expected to be released within 12 hours or immediately after investigators reach their conclusions.

Affected by this news, the trading price of EGLD fluctuated between $3.99 and $4.20 that day, and the current price is around $4.12.

Preliminary Investigation and Official Statement

MultiversX stated in a September 19 announcement that its technical team is reviewing potential issues detected on the main chain. The notice emphasizes that this is an ongoing investigation and puts user protection at the top of the response.

The project party worded it carefully and only stated that it was working hard to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the network. MultiversX did not characterize the issue as a vulnerability, service interruption or consensus failure, and the announcement did not mention theft of funds, impact on wallets or any financial loss.

In the initial notice, the team did not ask users to suspend transactions, withdraw funds or take any other action. Due to the lack of a detailed technical assessment, the current public statement only supports the description used by MultiversX: a "potential main-network issue" still under review.

According to the project party's instructions, the second update will be released within 12 hours of the first notification. If the investigation team can reach a clear conclusion in advance, the release time may be advanced accordingly. Therefore, the update time depends on the established window period or the progress of completion of the review work.

Impact of main-network failures on EGLD users

MultiversX is a layer of blockchain (Layer-1), and its main-network records real transfers and smart contract activities rather than test transactions. EGLD is a native asset of the network and is used to pay transaction fees, pledge and governance voting.

Any confirmed failure may have different effects depending on its location in the network architecture. For example, block production issues are very different in nature from issues at the application layer, wallet interfaces, cross-chain bridges, or third-party services. However, in its first announcement, MultiversX did not classify the incident in any of the specific areas mentioned above.

This distinction is critical for user assets. When the interface fails to correctly display the balance, tokens may still remain on the chain; consensus or block production issues may affect the processing and final certainty of new transactions. Currently, MultiversX has not stated what kind of situation the investigation involves or whether it is neither.

The network uses a proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism and a sharding architecture that aims to decentralize transaction processing into different parts of the chain. The verifier is responsible for ensuring the security of the agreement, while EGLD holders can entrust tokens to pledge them. Events involving validators, shard coordination, or smart contract execution require different responses, which also makes upcoming technology updates more important than initial alerts.

Early integration expands MultiversX's access range

The underlying network involved in this survey has been expanding its wallet, compliance and application infrastructure over the years. In July 2024, it was reported that SafePal wallet integration allows its users to directly access MultiversX through hardware wallets and mobile apps, and a browser extension is also planned.

At the time, SafePal had more than 13 million users, covering more than 200 countries, and supporting more than 100 blockchains. The integration covers access to EGLD through cold storage hardware and mobile interfaces, demonstrating how third-party products connect the holder to the underlying mainnetwork.

The security and compliance module was also part of the build effort. In May 2022, AnChain.AI's analytical integration was launched, designed to support fraud prevention and regulatory compliance, covering payments, decentralized finance and other applications on the Internet. At the time, the network was also known as Elrond.

Early MultiversX network interpretation documents described EGLD as the local currency of the protocol and introduced its adaptive state slicing technology. The report, released in February 2022 (then using the name Elrond), also covers the chain's role in smart contracts and decentralized applications.
